I think that really depends on how you look at it. There are people who are not depressed, but just don't want to do anything but sit on their behinds all day. That is lazy. Depression cause you to lose all your energy to get up and do things and just feel fatigue and sick all the time. We all know how difficult it is to get up and do anything when you don't feel well. So I think there is a difference between the effects of being depressed and lazyness. Lazyness is not wanting to do anything without a good reason. Well, that is just my opinion.

One common symptom of depression is lack of energy and lack of motivation to engage in activities you once enjoyed. Clinically depressed people often have trouble getting out of bed and may sometimes pay less attention to their appearance. Part of this is a sense of hopelessness and helplessness -- such as, nothing will get better, so why try?

So, in such a case it's not really laziness, it is a symptom of a genuine disease. Clinical depression involves changes in brain chemistry that affect a person's behavior, and if they are really depressed they are not just being lazy, they are ill. If you or someone you know may be clinically depressed, you should talk to a doctor or mental health professional. There are many websites that will list other symptoms of clinical depression.

By the way, I am a mental health counselor. I say this not because I can give you any professional counseling, only because I want you to know I have some experience with depression.

Everyone has different symptoms. There are some people who are over achievers and are depressed but cope by hiding their true feelings of self doubt and low self esteem. But generally depression takes away all your desire to enjoy life and you want to be alone most of the time. Its a sickness just like when you're sick with a cold and have no energy, and just lie around in bed for a few days.

Yes and no. Depression is an actual mental sickness that affects people regardless of how lazy they are. Winston Churchill suffered from chronic depression, for example. At the same time, people who have something to do have a better chance to fight off the symptoms of depression.

Depression
Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood
Feelings of hopelessness, pessimism
Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness
Loss of interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed, including sex
Decreased energy, fatigue, being "slowed down"
Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions
Insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping
Appetite and/or weight loss or overeating and weight gain
Thoughts of death or suicide; suicide attempts
Restlessness, irritability
Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain.

I think if a person is depressed, that person is not lazy. It can be seen that way thru the eyes of others. This person is sick and need help. I would not call them lazy, but hopeless and down.

yes ! really good question tho. yes, these two are linked like peas in a pod ! however, depression is not laziness at all. people who are depressed can't help it. u know how it feels when u get the flu? u don't feel well. same thing with depression. depressed people don't feel well at all, and it takes all the energy out of u. that's what people have to understand.

I think it depends on the person and the type of depression they have. I have known people who are depressed, but it would make them always on the go and having to do something all the time. But others just sleep and do nothing.

Yes. If you're depressed you don't want to do anything. But if you force yourself out and go places and do thing you may help yourself feel better. Happened to me and going out, whether for a walk, going to a movie or out to have a drink made me feel better. And always remember there are people worse off then you.
