I just started taking a multivitamin a couple of weeks ago and for the first half of the day it makes my urine bright yellow (the vitamin is yellow as well). I drink tons of water so I know it's not a lack of water. I'm just wondering if it's a dye that's coming off or what and if it means its overworking my kidneys or if it's just a harmless side effect?

It's what we in the nutriceutical field call "potty pills" or "expensive urine". Think about it...there is nothing found in nature containing 100 mgs of ascorbic acid, 100 mgs of B-6, etc,. Focus on eating right and whole food supplements only (where bioavailablility can be proven by credible resources). If you're not afraid of wading through all the research hidden in some of the "back pages", go to www.PreventionProof.com and enjoy the education. I've also uploaded some information on this to my Yahoo Briefcase which you can freely download. There's other health stuff there, as well, relating to high protein diets, building up the immune system, ideal blood tests, cancer, macular degeneration, diabetic neuropathy, free radicals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, etc. http://briefcase.yahoo.com/apuzyr

As stated above, it is from vitamin B. But you probably are not drinking enough water during the day. The standard calculation for minimum water intake is:

Your weight in pounds times .55 = number of ounces.

So if you weigh 100 pounds you should be drinking 55 ounces of water minimum. That is in addition to the fluid you get from coffee and any other beverages. And in the summer and very hot weather like we have been having you should be drinking even more than this. You know when you have had enough water when what comes out is almost completely clear with only just a hint of yellow color.

This is normal. The bright gold color is just your body getting rid of the extra vitamins that it doesnt need. Most vitamins go right on through but some can build up. An over the counter vitamin taken as directed will supply your body with what it needs and you will dispose of the rest (colorfully).

Your urine is yellow because it's your bodies way of getting rid of all the left over vitamins that your body couldn't absorb from your multivitamin. It's nothing to worry about,it happens to most people who take multivitamins.

I had the same problem. I asked my trainer and he said the vitamin is cleaning out the junk in your body.
