there has never been a society or culture in which people have not sought God. There is an inner drive within people that causes them to look of Him. Blaise Pascal spoke of it as a God shaped vacuum within every heart that is restless until it finds its rest in Him.

So men look for a God. And since He is out there, they find out things about him. Many religions have discovered the "golden rule" and written commandments against murder, adultry, theft, perjury, etc. They realize that He desires their worship and He answers their prayers. But too often they are like the blind men who wanted to "see" an elephant. One felt his trunk and concluded the elephant was like a rope. Another felt the ear and came away believing elephants were a kind of fan. Another felt the side and decided the elephant was a wall. While another felt the tail, and argued that elephants were a type of snake. They all had touched the elephant, but not a one had gotten the whole picture.

God is so big that no human being will ever be able to fully preceive ot experience Who He is. At best they get glimpses and pieces. And God tries hard to show them the most important parts. But no one has ever gotten it completely right.

Since God wants to be know, He did the only thing possible. He became a human being, and walked amoung men, teaching them and revealing the truth about himself. That man was Jesus the Christ. He was the one who was able to finally reveal the fullness of God to mankind. Within his teachings, and the explaination of them, found in the New Testament is everything needed to understand God.

You have the choice! God appeared in many forms on this planet (Krishna, Shiva, Buddha, Jesus,.....). The follower of those great people, founded the religion, based on the "god unified one". Each religion points out some truth: Christianity: Love the other as you love you....; Buddhism: Do good and cleanse your heart; Hinduism: Reincarnation and Maya Theory....
I found out each religion carries a SPOT OF TRUTH... FIND IT!
But nearly each religion came also up with "false believes" (Christianity: gay is sin, Hinduism: you can not change your fate, ....). They "followers" of the religion added to the religion "something", that was truly not intended with the founder... So, be aware also, if you found "your" religion and follow it, because you have to uncover the "untruth" it holds, and do not maintain it!!! Change it to truth instead...

Okay, best to you,
love

well i dont blame society for having so many different beliefs. Since the beginning of time we were forced to believe in a certain religion. When we were given the freedom to have faith in whatever we wanted to, people chose to do so. No religion or belief can be questioned or analyzed. No religion or belief is wrong or right. I think it is beautiful that people have faith, no matter in what God or Saint they might believe in.

Anybody with any half baked idea can get into the religion biz, it's the nature of the business.

Usually many of them are offshoots of another religion and someone had disagreements over dogma and went off and started their own. The Protestant is an offshoot of Catholicism, etc.

I think that religion is programmed into the human soul, when god created man he said that we should say thanks in some way so he created religion, There is no right or wrong religion, different cultures have developed different ways to worship God

Because if someone doesn't like the current religion or God - they make-up a new one to suite their purposes and preferences. There is only one true GOD and religion!@

if you read the old testament, you will see that there were many "splits" in the various groups. first, abraham had a son with his maidwoman... this is the ancestor for the muslims... then, abrahams son isaac was with his wife sarah. isaac is the ancestor for modern jews and christians. then, again later, isaac had sons who also parted ways and created two different groups. not to mention the fact that the jews were supposed to kill ALL people from opposing groups or "they will forever be a thorn in your side", which they did not do. this is why the wars in the middle east are all in scripture. the wars will not end until Jesus comes again and it is all biblical.

Simple: People didn't like their religion, so they made up their own. Take Aaron for example.

Many factors have contributed to the development of new religious groups. A comparison of their teachings and practices with the Bible indicates, rather, that the diversity of religions is because people have become followers of men instead of listening to God. It is noteworthy that, to a large extent, teachings they hold in common, but that differ from the Bible, originated in ancient Babylon.
Who is the instigator of such religious confusion? The Bible identifies Satan the Devil as “the god of this system of things.” (2 Cor. 4:4) It warns us that “the things which the nations sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, and not to God.” (1 Cor. 10:20) How vitally important, then, to make sure that we really are worshiping the true God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and that our worship is pleasing to him!

Are all religions acceptable to God?

Mark 7:6, 7: “He [Jesus] said to them [the Jewish Pharisees and scribes]: ‘Isaiah aptly prophesied about you hypocrites, as it is written, “This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach as doctrines commands of men.” (Regardless of whom a group profess to worship, if they hold to doctrines of men instead of the inspired Word of God, their worship is in vain.)

Romans 10:2, 3: “I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge; for, because of not knowing the righteousness of God but seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.” (People may have God’s written Word but lack accurate knowledge of what it contains, because they have not been taught properly. They may feel that they are zealous for God, but they may not be doing what he requires. Their worship is not going to please God, is it?)
