Hi! Spirits come from the "spirit world". From an other dimension, that is overlayed to our creation, but invisible to normal seeing eyes. Some people have access to this worlds, and see and are able to communicate with them. There we have to differentiate the "lower" realms and the "higher" realms. In the lower realms, normal people live... in the "very" lower realms people with addictions and with wrong "deeds" live. In the higher realms addvanced people and angles live. In the very higher realms Master of Light live and arcangles. These dimensions are REALLY HUGE, so it is, that other planets like the Plajards, or Syrius are inhabited, just on the other side, the "invisible" dimension... There are so so many souls, born and unborn,-

The interesting thing is, that there "are now so many people/spirits" incarnated on earth. This is a indication for a very "interesting" time! people/spirits came from the whole universe here to earth right now, because something terrific and magical is happening... The earth will change its frequency and will be arrised into a new state. This is very interesting, because it is an speed up now... Karma comes back very fast, Many enlightened beings have incarnated to help the world in this periode of transfer... the change to the light...
the question, that arises, is if we (the enlightened) will be able to make the "shift" very gentle, or will it be rough? If it will be rough, what many "seers" predicted, then much on earth will be destroyed, and it will be a "new age" (sorry the expression, but it meets the point). If it will be gentle, then it will be as "sleep". Many people will awake and see "AH! What has happend? This is how it looks like! Awesome..."
So everyone who works with devine TRUTH and LOVE, and all qualities of God (peace, gentleness, happiness, joy, grace, abundance,....) will help to make the shift more gentle. I pray, it will be smooth.

Interesting question isn't it ?
I asked this same question many years ago when I first discovered confirmation of a fundemental spiritual truth.
This truth which I was looking for specifically at that time, was that we do not HAVE a spirit ,or soul, or whatever you want to call it. This is infact what we ARE. What we HAVE is a Mind
and a Body.
As to where we all came from exactly.... I did not get fully answered yet, but have greatly increased my knowledge and understanding of what we ARE, which is actually far more significant than where we came from originally.

Basically to answer your question you simply need to know that the Spiritual Universe is much bigger and more "populated" and ultimately senior to the Material or Physical Universe ( which physical bodies are part of)

Very nice question. This is answered very directly in the Bhagavad-gita: "I am the source of all spiritual and material worlds. Everything emanates from Me. The wise who perfectly know this engage in My devotional service and worship Me with all their hearts." Bg.10.8. The speaker here is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Here He says that everything in existence, everything that is within our experience and beyond our experience has come from Him by His various energies. Also later in the Bhagavad-gita He says: "It should be understood that all species of life, O son of Kunti, are made possible by birth in this material nature, and that I am the seed-giving father." Bg. 14.4.

Actually it is more appropriate to say that we are spirit, rather than we "have" spirit. We are spirit and we currently have a human body. This perspective makes it easier to get a grip on your second question.

From the human plane of consciousness whereby we think we are human and have a spirit, it appears that population is increasing. The spirit cannot be created, it is eternal: "For the soul there is never birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain." Bg.2.20.

So how is it that the human population is increasing and yet the spirit soul cannot be created? The solution is that beings in other forms of life are taking birth as human beings on this planet. Since the soul is not created at birth or destroyed at death, it moves from one body to another according to the individual's karma or actions within its lifetime.

The Lord is the source of everything material and spiritual and is therefore the source of both the soul and the body. There are not more souls, just more human bodies that more souls are taking birth in. Our materially conditioned minds create a contradiction here. To say that the Lord is the source of the soul and simultaneously to say the soul has not come into existence seems contradictory. This is incongruous to us because we accustomed to think of everything has having a beginning and an end. To conceive of something that is eternal -- no beginning and no end-- is not possible with our conditioned state of consciousness. We have to become free from conditioning first -- free from the illusion that we are a human with a spirit and see the reality-- we are eternal spirit soul who currently inhabits a human body. This is called self-realization.

I believe in reincarnation but not past lives. I think that the sum of all the souls makes up a collective consciousness. It is easiest to visualize this as a great font of water where the souls are water. When we are created our bodies are the cup and a measure of soul is poured inside our bodies. Immediately our souls take on elements of the cup (hereditary traits) from our parents. As we go through life our opinions and experiences "color" the water and then finally when we die our souls are poured back into the water to slowly disperse.

As a new cup is filled it will take on some of the "color" from a soul that has already traveled the course. This explains how some people can say a place or something in history is very familiar to them.

As far as how much "water" is in the "font" who can say.

The Body evolved through directed evolution. The Soul is breathed into each of us by God Himself. That means, the soul is the program created and run on the brain's hardware.
