now, I know that the body gets in the habit of waking up at a certain time but how can you get in that routine without an alarm clock?

or try this, at night time whisper to yourself that you want to wake up at a certain time. think about it till you go to sleep; more often that not you will wake up at that set time you have in your head. Mind is powerful buddy, so have a positive one. Wake up and help make it a better world!

I have not used an alarm clock to wake up for 6 years. I have a doggie who wakes me up around 6:30 every morning. Works fine. People over the years are trained by sounds and light to wake up-unless you are totally out of it and sleep thru it!

I suppose when the sun came up - or an internal alarm clock - or cocka-doodle-doo - personally I have NO idea since I need an alarm clock waking up my husband and then him waking me up - otherwise I am dead to the world.

My dog used to get up, get a drink of water and actually OPEN my bedroom door with his paws, then proceed to jump on my bed and bite me in the head, then lick me in the face with his slimey tongue. Always 10 minutes before I had to wake up. Soon I didn't even set the alarm, just left the door open to save my dog the work of opening it to come wake me.

Roosters start crowing at pre-dawn light and that will wake you quick. Also in cities and towns they had callers or criers who would wake the city befoe the advent of church/clock bells.

They went to bed earlier. Candles are expensive, and sleeping children aren't very entertaining. Between that and the chickens outside, most people were up at least with the sun, and most were up before it.
