I don't think it's a big deal if you give an 18month old a piece of the popcorn... just make sure it's the outer edges that dont' have the kernal thingy in it... I've always given kids popcorn cuz that seems to be their fave... BUT i've stayed right there with them to prevent choking if it does happen by chance. But the child should have no problem with chewing/eating the fluffy part of the popcorn. :) Enjoy... whatever the decision... Popcorn isnt' the worse i've heard. I've heard someone giving a freakin' kid candy at such a young age... that's a NO NO... but seeing as popcorn is soft and easy to go down just in case they forget to chew it should be fine... just tiny lil pieces :)

Popcorn is actually very hard on the stomach lining. Those little skins are as sharp as razors and make a mess on the stomach. Ever notice that after eating popcorn you have a slight tummy ache? It's because of those hard skins scratching the stomach lining. Don't give him the popcorn.

Absolutely a choking hazard. Popcorn is hard for adults to eat a lot of times. I wouldn't give it to any infant/toddler.

I choke on popcorn.. you know when you get that kernel coating the back of yoru throat? Yuck. Gerber makes these cool flavored puffs that feel like eating popcorn, but dissolve easy for little ones. My son always loved the sweet potato ones and the banana strawberry. They might be a nice alternative for your little one.

Yes they can but it really is not safe. There is a tremendous choke risk because of the hull in the popcorn. They do however make hull-less popcorn which is perfectly safe; it literally melts in your mouth. I have included some sources for hulless popcorn in my response. Hope this helps.

They're not supposed to, but when my son was 18 months, he loved it (still does, actually). I just break off the big rounded part of the popcorn and give him that...leaving the hulls/shell on the rest of the corn, and I eat that part. :) YOu can buy that stuff called "Pirate's Booty" which is hullless popcorn, but it's pretty nasty. He wouldn't eat it.

I wouldn't feed an 18 month old popcorn or peanuts. The pieces are too small and too easy to chock on.

I would agree with that. Some of the popcorn skins are a little too...dangerous for infants.

Popcorn is the most choked on food. I wouldn't let him have it yet.
