A neurologist is a medical doctor or osteopath who has trained in the diagnosis and treatment of nervous system disorders, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles.

Neurologists perform neurological examinations of the nerves of the head and neck; muscle strength and movement; balance, ambulation, and reflexes; and sensation, memory, speech, language, and other cognitive abilities

Ok with that information above...think about the Emergency Room. When someone is in a car wreck or has fallen...more than likely they will need a neurologist. A ER doctor will usually call for a specialist...someone who knows the above information.

So I would have to say "Yes". Probably on call all the time.

That would depend on the individual doctor him or her self. Some are and some aren't. It would also depend on the hospital too. Some hospitals have some peculiar rules and regulations on who's on call or not. It would also depend on the person's extent of injury too, whether it was by car accident or some other dangerous life threatening accident. Each doctor is different and so is each hospital. In my small town, the neurologists don't make physical appearances when they are called for an emergency. They tell the E.R. doctor what tests to run and so forth over the phone. Then if the patient is admitted, usually the next day, the neurologist will come by and see the patient.

Good luck and I hope I was some what helpful!

It depends on the doctor. They are generally on call a lot. Like if they were your only option and you had a very bad injury they would get into a car at 3am and drive to meet you at a hospital.
When I had my accident and was paralyzed fromt he waist down a neurologist on call from a hospital actually got in his car at 1am and drove to a hospital.
Since dermatologists usually see less emergencies, they do not need to be on call a lot. Neurology is a different story though. Most neurological cases are urgent and they definetly should be on call. Like I said it depends on the doctor though but your local hospital has a neaurologist 24/7.

Depends on the specialty. Most neurologists are on call like dermatologists as they really do not perform complex or immediate procedures. Neurosurgeons however are on the highest level of call, my neurosurgeon was called while on vacation in another country about an emergency situation with my case where I was immediately hospitalized.

Yes, Neurologists have to be on call in case of emergencies. It is less likely for someone to have a life threatening rash(dermatologist), so they may not be on call, however if any type of brain injury or neurological emergency happens, then there MUST be someone on call to handle that, so like I said, yes Neurologists are on call.
