No, just make sure you play with them when you can't walk!

I have had dogs all my life. No this is not abuse. But taking your dog out makes a better life for the dog. just imagine never leaving your house. When i say walk to my dog, he gets so excited and he loves it. Every dog I have had my family has made sure they go out everyday. Good luck

I don't think that this is animal abuse. However, you should play with the dog and talk to him/her as much as possible. Let the dog spend time with you. My dog is content just to lie at my feet. I have not taken her for a walk for a month or more because of the heat and the humidity but she has fresh food, fresh water, plenty of toys, the Weather Channel to listen to when I have to go out and me to listen to and play with when I come home. She also has the nice cool air conditioned house to stay in.

I'm guessing you are referring to letting the dog out to relieve itself, as opposed to exercise. A dog should be taken outside to relieve itself (i.e., urinate and/or defecate) at least three times a day (assuming about four to six hours between each outing, during waking hours). If you're not sure about this, ask yourself "would I like to have to hold my bladder and bowels more than six hours?", and you will find the answer. Yes, if you regularly fail to take your dog out at least every six hours (preferably more often) during waking hours, then you are being cruel and negligent. No excuse for not doing this minimum amount of care. If for some reason the dog cannot be let outside to relieve itself, but must relieve itself indoors, there are products that act as absorbent mats (made of diaper-like material) for the dog to use for urinating/defecating. If taking a dog out regularly is too much for a dog owner to handle, then that person should put the dog up for adoption to someone that will be willing to put in the extra effort to walk the dog regularly. If the concern here is not about the dog relieving itself, but rather exercise, then playing indoors with the dog can be an acceptable alternative to the exercise received during walking outdoors (depending on how much play the dog receives).

Depending on the breed, a better word might be neglectful, not abuse.
I have two lazy dogs, they would think they are abused walking in the heat.
Depending on the dog, some need more than others and of course some breeds INSIST!

No... but animals do need exercise. Depending on what type of dog it is depends on how high it's activity level is. As long as your dog gets to play and has a good time.... just make sure your animal is stimulated.

If it's a small dog, many of which do not need excerise as the bigger dogs do, that is not a problem. Many of the smaller breeds are paper trained, and if that is the case, the environment should be kept clean. A bigger dog needs to go out if not for excerise, they seem to need it more.

It's not, but it's not great. In certain respects, it could be considered as neglectful. Does the dog go outside? Dogs need to go outside a couple time a day. Wouldn't you go crazy if you couldn't leave the house.

Strange question....

Well that actually depends on several things, The breed of dog for instance, the weather conditions, dogs need exercise, so that is the way you are hurting them.

No, that's silly. It may be neglectful, depending on the dog. My mom's chihuahua always hated walks, and much prefers a good romp around in the backyard - nothing wrong with that.

well it's cruel if you mean you're not even letting the dog outside to go to the bathroom and your house would smell, but it doesn't need to go out everyday to run around but you should play with it when you're home inside and take it out a few times a week.
