i think i got it! the man didn't use the rope, no blood would be spilled. it wasn't the whiskey, again no blood would be there. So that leaves only the puddle of water. why it's the water... water freezes right so at one point it may have been frozen, if it had been frozen it could have been an icicle. icicle are sharp so he stabbed himself which explains the blood. and then the icicle melted thus the pool of water. was i right or completely wrong?

The man was drunk.(he drank the whiskey) he commited suicide with the rope, and slipped into the pool on the puddle of water. the whiskey spilled into the water, and it looked like blood.

the man was drunk then killed himself with an icicle which caused the blood...the rope was just there for nothing..or maybe to confuse readers.

A gun. The man's wife shot him, while he was drinking water. She was drinking whisky, the rope was left by their kids earlier.
