Looking for a connection between train stations in New York City, without having to take a bus or taxi.

You can take the subway, but it requires a transfer. Take the E train from 34th St/Penn Station to Lexington Ave/53rd St, and transfer to the 51st Street station. From there take the 4,5 or 6 train to 42nd St/Grand Central Station.

Alternatively, you can take an A,C or E train one stop up to 42nd St/Port Authority and use the walkway to get to Times Square, where you can take the 7 train the rest of the way to 42nd St/Grand Central.

It's a shame they don't have a more direct connection – they should extend the 7 train to reach Penn Station.
