Conservative or Democrat it doesnt matter the bottom line is no one should be making the current minimum wage. I would argue that to raise it would just reaffirm the truth. The truth is that anyone making 5.15 an hour cannot survive in our society without living in some terrible conditions. 5.15 should be the minimum wage for a kid with two parents at home doing some menial summer job.
It's ridiculous that someone would argue because of mismanagement at the federal level. We have allowed the business's of our nation to be in some dire need for 5.15 an hour workers.
If a someone goes out of business because of the increase in minimum wage that just speaks too the market conditions of a business that was probably failing anyway.
Many states have raised their minimum wage.. you have to ask why is that the case. The Feds are full of themselves.
Democrats need to watch what programs they spend on and start limiting them.
And republicans need to stop sending our money outside this nation for wars.
Cause thats where our funds are right now! I say increase the minimum wage and stop having the lower level income workers pay for stupid programs and humanitarian wars.

It sounds good in theory, but so does an increase in the minimum wage. In reality, it won't work. Minimum wage jobs were never meant to be the primary source of income for a family. To really be beneficial, the minimum wage would have to be somewhere around $15/hour. If that were so, then everybody [except the very rich] would wind up having to take a second job at minimum wage in order to pay for the increase in all the goods and services caused by raising the minimum wage.

Minimum wage hike in practice looks real appealing. When you consider the items in the grocery store raising in price to keep up, clothing taking a hike, rent going up, and everything else rising in price then the minimum wage increase is not so appealing. If this hike was 5 or 6 dollars an hour it would be pretty good, but not just 2. It is a vicious cycle, wages go up and so does everything else. Who benefits the business person or the person getting minimum wage?

I suppose your argument is that we will lose jobs because corporations can't pay the higher minimum wage? NOT
They are losing jobs now and will continue to lose more jobs because of the LACK OF tariffs and for not forcing countries that we do free trade with, like Mexico, to enforce their own minimum wage laws.
We should not punish our poor working class in order to compete. We should instead only do business with countries that have high humanitarian standards and have a required, liveable minimum wage.

Its a good idea , but what about small business? I agree the minimum wage needs to go up,heck the cost of living has sky rocketed. But there will have to be some sort of break for the small business owner . Most can hardly afford a 40 hr. week employee and upping the ante may cause lay offs or businesses to close-there has to be some kind tax break , without the "rich people break" crap that follows.

I think it's a fascinating idea! What a great thing that republicans and democrats could get together behind. However, I think it would be difficult to pass: big business interests would most likely interfere, and other countries such as China and Taiwan would be very angry.
However, I think that raising the minumum wage and supporting more social programs would be a great step toward lowering the number of abortions in this country (people who make more money tend to have the resources to care better for their children).

HAMILTONIAN economics at work here if tariffs are used and would slow the world globalization of business which is the current economic structure we have adopted .PROFIT at the cost of american workers is why our grand standered of living is totaly in the craper these days and headed south .
TARIIFFS would indeed slow this and could reverse this trend .AMERICA became the greatest nation on earth with the three simple principals of HAMILTONIAN economics which would restore america to its once great power and respect .
we have adopted the more liberal jewish traditions of charging intrest on money as a way to improve profits .
THESE economic stratigies are terroistic in nature and the reason for most of americas problems and until we change our economics back to a mechinteal and hamiltonian economic base we will continue to flounder as a nation and great a wider gap between those who have security and those who do not .
THIS will lead to the same problems faced in ww1-ww2 where jews where blamed for the economic collapses and hardships of the workers in all of europe .
THIS is what this type of economey has produced .
WETHER you accept the jews as the force behind this or not it is a departure from traditional american practices that made us great and the world leader we once where .NOW we are a debtor nation and barrow from china .GO figure america trashed by the jews who killed jesus .

No. Most conservatives want smaller government. I would prefer to see the minimum wage eliminated. I also would not support anything that adds to the welfare system. Welfare should be done by the people, not by the state.

good idea but why not have a worldwide minimum wage instead?
like if you work for a us corporation in the third world, then you get a minimum $1 per hour
this would be a big improvement for them
then they could pay taxes and support their communities better.
you would be shocked to see how low of a $20 piece of clothing goes to the workers that make it.

Minimum wage increase would cause a lot of businesses to not hire people - Businesses are on budgets, too. The solution is to not tax those folks who are entry level employees. Let them bring home all the money they make.
