I ride my bike 5 days a week, to and from my school. I don't know my speed, but I estimate that the distance between the school and my house is about 1.5 miles. I ride a mountain bike and carry a back pack too. I almost always make it to school in 10 minutes or less, but it is never much less than 10 minutes. You have to account for the stop signs along the route. Unfortunately, most of the low-traffic detours through neighborhoods are riddled with stop signs. And drivers in my city are not bicycle friendly at all, so you pretty much have to take detours to avoid them. Still, 10 minutes is much less time than it would take with a car. There is almost no parking at my school during the semester, so I would end up needing a half hour to get to school if I were to drive. And don't forget the additional cost of owning a car! If you can ride a bike, you'll be doing yourself a favor. Good luck!

Tour de France riders were going approx. 34 mph on the flats, which would be 1 mile in just under 2 minutes. An average person, probably 5 minutes at a fast clip.

for cyclists participating in the tour de france time trial stage
since they cycle more then 40-42 miles in 1hr in time trial
