legs shake when he is in the sit position. If we are having him stay and he knows he is about to get it treat it's more intense. Could this be excitement or nerves , as my husband seems to think it is. Or could there be a problem? He is going to the vet Monday and I plan to ask them too,but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem.

Feel his leg joints..the joint just above each foot..and see of they are swollen..that is a sign of calcium deficient rickets..common in large breeds..It would cause weakness in the joints as first symptom..Be sure to mention it to your vet..
it could also be in his hips..I would recommend a bone/joint health supplement as he matures...this is a great one, and reasonably priced..the second order is usually a 2-4-1.. http://springtimeinc.com/product/94/2
But! Let's just hope your husband is right this time!

It sounds like he's just excited. Puppies usually can't sit still long without getting excited easily. If he is having hip problems (common in larger breeds) then you need to watch how he walks. If he is walking funny also then that's probably it. But it just sounds to me like he's anxious. I would have your vet check him out though. I do know that if he has any hip problems in his family line that you want to make sure not to over feed him. The hips go out easier and quicker in overweight dogs. Keep him lean, I don't mean starve him, I mean just don't over feed him. It's hard to over feed dogs under the age of 6 to 12 months, their metabolism is really high. After around 8 or 9 months though if he's not as active, then you should probably watch his weight. Good Luck. Animals are great.

Larger dogs (even as puppies) can have problems with their hips (hip dysplacia). You may just want to have him checked. Also, if his legs are shaking in the sitting position, he may have (and please don't consider me crude) some kind of problem in the rear (that makes it a little uncomfortable to sit). If the same thing happens when you have the dog 'lay' or 'lie down', you may want to consider having him checked for hip problems.

He could also be pinching a nerve when he sits. Make sure he is sitting properly - without his tail tucked under.

Hopefully, though, your husband is right, and your dog is just excited to be pleasing you and receiving a treat for doing so.

If it's just the front legs, then it's probably just ancitipatory excitement. But if the back legs are shaking during a sit, then it could be a hip problem.

This could be just nerves, or it could be something like hip displasa, or maybe a nerve is pinched in his lower back when he sits, try pressing around his lower back along his spine. If her yelps maybe bring that up to the vet.

sounds like just excitement.
Good puppy though! Loves the water.

Large breeds do have problems with hip displasa, watch for this in his future.

I have a Bernese Mountain Dog, a relative of the Newfy. Congrats on your great taste in dogs!

It's probably nerves, excitement. ESPECIALLY in a puppy. Or that he has to pee. :) If he has trouble getting up (when hes calm, not when you call him) then it could be signs of hip displaysia. It's a perfect time for that to start showing. If you think it might be HD, try Esther C vitamins.

Good luck. Love Newfies!

I would think excited but it's a good thing you are having him checked by a vet. That is the only way to know for sure.

I could be hip problems if he is limping when he is walking or if he wines when he gets up after laying down for a while....but if he's not limping then my guess would be that he is just excited...your vet will be able to tell you whats going on.

I don;t think my dog ever did that, but it might just be puppy excitement. However, if I were you I would definitely ask the vet.

Nerves, how excited does a three year old get when you tempt them with candy?
