With that many people using the PC, you've probably got some extra programs and maybe defragmented files. You may also have some spyware too. Not uncommon on shared PCs.

Since you have DSL, you might want to head over to an online Microsoft site that does do a fair amount of testing for items ranging from spyware to missing files. The service is free while it's in beta. I'm not sure if they plan to charge.

I would go through each option. The service isn't as fast as if you bought a program and had it locally on your PC, but it will get the job done. I would let it run overnight and see what it finds.

You might also check the other article as it references startup programs which can slow down your machine.

Perhaps your pc may have some viruses running on it. You may want to run a virus scan on the pc. You can use norton virus or mcafee. Another possibility of slowness can be spyware existing on your pc. Try and download free spyware tools such as spybot or adware. They can help clean them out. Another clean up can be to defrag your harddrive once in a while. You already have this tool on your pc. This can be done by going to start>programs>administrative tools>computer management. Good luck.
