I have a 1 ½ year old male rat terrier that within a couple of months he started marking. A week ago I got him neutered to try to eliminate this problem. Well things were going great until this morning I found out he started marking again! I have no idea what to do now? We have had him for over a year, and we have another male dog. I don’t know why he all of a sudden started to mark. I was hoping that the neuter will eliminate the problem. HELP!

It is best to have them neutered before they start marking. Once they start it is more difficult to get him to stop. The neutering may still help a little. You need ti reinforce his potty training. Since he is older go with the 3 month rule.
The first thing to remember about house training a puppy is there ability to hold themselves is limited. a rule of thumb is they can hold "it" usually 1 hour for each month of age. 2 month= 2 hours, 3 month= 3 hours, etc. when your puppy wakes up (morning, nap, whatever) the pup has to go, right then! take the pup out. when the pup eats or drinks, it has to go, take the pup out. after exercise (play), take the pup out. when the pup does it's thing outside praise it. a lot. tell the pup how good, how smart it is. you have to pay attention to the pups "looking for it's spot" behavior. when you see that behavior indoors, whisk the pup out. if you catch the pup in the act, simply tell it "NO!" and whisk it outside. if you find a puddle or pile after the fact, clean it up with an enzyme cleaner (pet food store) get a newspaper and hit.... yourself in the head and say "i should have been paying more attention" daytime training they get pretty fast. night time training is easier if you crate train the pup. also remember the one hour/one month rule. you will have to get up through the night to take the pup out. good luck.

My rescues mark. I most effective rescue puppies, on account that my feminine is not fond of different women being in her house. With each and every puppy I have rescued, I have had a trouble with marking. After neutering, that trouble died right down to a trainable stage. I think neutering offers you the upperhand in preventing the marking- despite the fact that it isn't unattainable to instruct an unaltered puppy not to mark. However, if the puppy is raised from a puppy and taught to not mark from the commencing, it makes the task plenty less difficult. Callmedaisy- "All my my puppies compete in agility/Frisbee/dock diving/rally/and so on and you'll be disqualified for having your male "pop" his leg and pee whilst strolling a rough or within the core of a contest." What venues are you competing with? I have in no way heard of a puppy for urinating for the period of agility, frisbee, or dock diving. Rally, perhaps, however the different exercises have regulations pointing out the clock will probably be stopped for a puppy to do away with, then restarted as soon as the puppy has completed. EDIT: Ah, probably I am taking into consideration disc then!

Your dog is trying to be the dominate male. The best way to eliminate the problem is to either get rid of him (let him have a home where he is the only dog) or prove to him that you are the pack leader and that you are the dominate one (watch the Dog Whisperer--will do wonders).

The neuter may help, but only with time and your continued vigilance. Everytime he starts to do it, tell him NO and take him outside to pee. (he isn't really peeing, just marking, but he has to know that's not ok).

You should of had him nuetered BEFORE he started marking. Now it is a habit you will need to break him of. Good Luck.

Please try this website. We had the same problem w/our Jack Russell, and this worked like a charm. Of course, we were very repetitive! Good Luck!!!
