They're okay, but I don't think the GM ownership influence has been benficial to them or to thier vehicles

Saabs are gorgeous. I agree that the GM influence has cheapend them up a little. I drive the 9-2x and it is totally a GM-owned Subaru Impreze Wagon. They didn't even bother to change anything in the car, except for the steering wheel. Same goes for the new 9-7x. It's just a freak'n Envoy.
The other Saab's are all classy and have exquisite looks. I would love to have a 9-3 convert or the new Sport Combi.

Eventhough I was still a kid I remember when my dad had a '76 Saab 99 it was a small but very fast and agile car that could switch lanes in the blink of an eye. I don't know much about newer Saabs as our family's taste in vehicles has turned from AMC to Chevy to Saab to Break My Wallet (BMW) to Honda to Volvo. But seriously if I could find a good condition 99 I would love to do some resto.

They can be wonderful. I had a 900 once, which was great to drive and own. They have a crtain silkiness which you won't really find in other cars, maybe with the exception of BMWs and Citroens. But I've always felt that they like their petrol, more than necessary, and I've had some weird defects on them, in the course of which things broke down expensively which other cars don't even possess. But on the whole, yeah, I do like them, and would buy one again. They manage to be cool, neutral, safe, cheap, and classics all at the same time. Hard to get this combo elsewhere.

I like some of Saab's cars, but not all of them. One of their concept cars is called the Aero-X, and it looks really really nice! It hasn't been approved for production yet, but they have approved a convertible for production that looks a lot like the Aero-X. The convertible also looks really nice too! I hope they will approve the Aero-X for production.
