You can buy almond butter, cashew butter, soy butter, sesame butter (tahini)...maybe try a health food store?
Peanut butter is the least healthy of the nut butters, by the way.

You can get other sorts of butters - usually at a farmers market or natural foods stores. You can also make your own (see link and recipe below).

I think almonds are too dry and would not make a good bread spread, but you can try anything.

Cashew Butter:
2 tablespoons honey
1/3 cup walnut oil
10 ounces (approximately 2 cups) roasted cashews
1/2 teaspoon salt

Place the honey in a microwave-safe container and heat in the microwave for 15 seconds. Remove from the microwave and add the oil to the container. Place the nuts and salt in the bowl of a food processor and pulse for 5 seconds. Then, while the processor is running, very slowly drizzle in the honey and oil. Process until an emulsion is formed and the mixture is smooth; this will take approximately 45 seconds to 1 minute. If the mixture is too thick and doesn't spread easily, add a little more oil.
Yield: Approximately 1 to 1 1/2 cup

I buy almond butter at Trader Joe's all the time. It's better for you than peanut butter (but more expensive too).

I saw cashew butter somewhere once, but I think it's a low volume item due to how expensive cashews are.

There are PLENTY of cashew and almond butters out on the market. For a good example of this, go to ShopNatural.com, or click on the provided link below. Here you can find many varieties of both cashew and almond butter. They also have hazelnut and macadamia nut butters. Yum! There's also the spread popular in Europe, but widely available in the US, Nutella, that combines chocolate and hazelnut butter.http://www.nutellausa.com/

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nut_butter cites several varieties of nut butter as well:

Nut butter refers to the mashing of nuts to create a spread, probably best known in the form of peanut butter. Various types include walnut butter, almond butter, hazelnut butter, macadamia nut butter, pecan butter, and cashew butter. Some seed butters on the same idea include soybean butter, sunflower seed butter, pumpkin seed butter, and sesame seed butter (also called tahini).

You can purchase various types of butters - almond and cashew included. They are not as common as peanut butter, so you may have to look in a gourmet or specialty food store.

There are almond butter and cashew butter. They are usually more expensive and you won't find them at ALL groceries, but you can find them. If you really want some, do an on-line search. You really can buy anything over the 'net!

A restaurant near me serves Pecan butter with its corn bread.

My guess is that there are such things as almond butter and cashew butter but you'd likely find them only in a high-end specialty food store.

I haven't come across cashew butter yet, but I just saw almond butter in the Costco just a couple of weeks ago.

Almond butter ftw!! it quite is greater much less costly, much less complicated to discover, and tastes quite stable. Cashew has a particularly greater unusual style, yet nevertheless yummy. Get almond butter first, and cashew butter later.

All the grocery stores in my area sell almond butter and cashew butter. I didn't buy it, but I have seen it on the shelves.
