After u get frm school take a little break for half an hour refresh ur self and get down to work. Coz the data is still very fresh on ur mind it is easy to recall. In this manner u memorise it as well as it helps during ur examination study. Another tip whether u have an assignment or not make it a point a routine rather to go thro what ever has been taught in the class and if a maths student solve ten sums daily

Some differing schools of thought here... but after you've "decompressed" a little from the school day (eat a protein snack, listen to a little music), many say, and I concur, that before supper is a great time... but sometimes, it simply gets done when you find the time... the imortant thing is to set aside a time every day & stick to it, except on odd occasions when fexibility is called for.
The idea that you can do homework in "study hall" is fine if you can keep from being distracted by others who have not the same work load as yourself.

Since this is in the "home school" category that is how I will base my answer. We home school. My son is going in the 5th grade. He doesn't do "home work" per say. He works on a subject until it is completed. He may have research to do for special projects, but even then we sometimes do that during "school hours". So for us the answer is: all day is the best time to do "Home" work.

I would say that the best time to do homework is about an hour after you get home from school. That way the child has a chance to come home relax and have a snack. School to chilren is just like work to adults they need time to chill too. Doing it an hour after you get home is the perfect time because then children can help with dinner and after dinner mom and dad can go over the homework with their children.
Having children available to participant in dinner and then checking their homework after dinner shows the children that you are active in their lives and its a chance to bond with them.

I prefer doing it right at school, so I don't have to do it at home.... mostly because I have a VERY nasty tendency to procrasinate. ^_^
Do it as soon as you get home from school. Otherwise you'll have it hanging over your head until you finally get to it at 11 that night. ...or 7:45 in the next morning.
