A hot water burn is called a "scald", and treated the same as any other burn. I don't think you just did it; otherwise you'd be getting medical attention and not sitting at your computer. But if you got it just recently, and having problems, such as blistering, swelling, please notify your doctor. There are various degrees of burns, from skin redness (1st degree), blistering (2nd degree) skin erosion and intense pain (3rd degree). For immediate relief of pain, use a cold, wet cloth on the burned area, or immerse it in cool (not ice-cold) water. When the pain subsides a little, cover with gauze to keep air away from the burned area, and seek medical attention. Don't use grease on the burn, as that will intensify it, and not help. A severe burn should be treated, especially if it covers a large area and is second or third-degree. Serious problems can result with extensive burns, such as going into shock. You don't say whether you scalded yourself in a hot tub, or just experienced a finger scald, so depending on where and how bad the scald is, get medical attention. A minor scald should heal in a day or two.

Run cool water over it for about 15 minutes. If a blister forms or if the area appears raw, you may need to see a doctor because that is a second degree burn. There are topical anesthetics you can spray on a burn to alleviate the pain. Also, you can take Tylenol or Advil. If the pain persists or it appears that the area has become infected, see a doctor.

Ice water. If it's a large burn or looks worse than a sunburn then you need medical care.
