Generally,if they grow up together they get along fine. If they meet as adults they sense fear & chase each other & fight.

What I know about cats is that they are very clean animals. They always keep themselves clean. On the other hand, dogs tend to be unclean, some times quite disgusting. This might be a reason. Also, the IQ of dogs are higher than cats, but quite close. They as animals have many opposite traits, which is why they normally can't stand each other. But sometimes the two can be freinds.

My dogs and cats get along great. They follow each other around my house and play with each other. So that is just a myth that they dont like each other. It just depends on the dog and the cat.

My older golden retriever dog plays with our new psychotic kitten for hours. The kitten stands its ground when the dog's being too rough and our dog just walks off when the kitten doesn't want to play anymore . They treat each other like mother and son.
