My cat got stuck on a roof and they would not come out until she has been up there for 48 hours. Then when the 48 hours were up they still wouldn't come, saying that if she got up she would get down. Now i know this makes sense but not under her circumstances. She climbs up the garden fence, jumps up onto the bungalow roof next door, which then leads onto the bottom of my roof, and up she goes, but from there she then jumps 15 feet down to next doors roof (on a lowe level) and is then stuck cos she can jump down that far but not up. We have a very strange shaped roof and that is the problem. When i asked the RSPCA about all the resues they do on TV i was told that that is just for the telly!! In the end i paid someone to go up a ladder and get her..........

It's an emergency services job. Dangerous - and RSPCA people are probably not trained for it.

My mom was in animal control for 10 years and she told me that they, nor the fire department here do not rescue cats from trees or roofs. Why? Because not once have they ever had to pull a dead cat from a tree or roof. Cats come down when they are hungry or thirsty. Circumstances will dictate and they will get down the same way they got up. Besides, it's your cat, your roof. Get your own dumb cat down. Why should RSPCA put their men in danger for something you could have done yourself? If you were so concerned about her, you should have paid someone to do it in the first place. If your cat has such a problem with climbing roofs, might I suggest making her an indoor cat?

i agree with the majortiy of others here, and the fact that normally 99% of cats do come down from roofs and trees, when it is quiet and they havent got a crowd of people screaming and waving here kitty kitty at them....
as for the rspca, they are a waste of time, if it happens again i would call the fire bridgade, even if it is a busy time for them thouse chaps are always helpful in whatever situation.. I really dont like supporting the rspca they refused me a cat once because they couldnt be bothered to tell me that a member of their staff got prioty over me, wouldnt give me a job even though ive worked with animals for 4 years, and are real rubbish at re-homing animals full stop (well the one in my old local area was).

Maybe fix a few loose slates whilst the're up there and adjust the TV aerial, oh and dont forget to clear the gutters. RSPCA stands for Roal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals..... a cat getting stuck on your roof isnt cruelty & it isnt their responsibility to get it down either.

Cats don't get "stuck" on rooves or in trees. they got up there and believe me they can get down. They get bored or hungry enough... they'll come down! Kittens are a different story... they just explore and really can get stuck due to lack of experience.
The SPCA doesn't have a budget to go around and save cats from the rooves as bad pet owners. Long story but there is also the problem of danger to the rescuer and liability.

From my experience as a radio operator for the emergency services, it is extremely difficult to get an RSPCA inspector out to attend ANY incident! I once ALMOST got them interested in a 6foot long snake in a supermarket carpark - but they told me to instruct a policeman to pick it up and put it in a sack! I and most of my colleagues would never give donations to this charity because of their reluctance to actually help animals!

I'm a firefighter, and if it was my cat i'd call my colleagues out. We are a fire and RESCUE service, we have the equipment, and most importantly, we're in the business of saving lives. Human or otherwise. AND we'd be there quicker than 48 hours.

Because their training does not include this type of rescue, and because their boss, the RSPCA, wont insure them. Aske the firebrigade, they are all decent lads and usually most willing to help.

Have you ever seen a cat's skeleton on a roof,or up a tree?
I haven't that is because they WILL COME DOWN of their own accord.
