get your haircut low. Wash it. Then buy a good bristle brush, Du rag, and a good wave grease.
start by applying the grease to your hair. Add a little water to your brush shake off excess. Start at the top of your head and brush forward. do this a few times. then do the sides. Brush down, then your back of your head brush down. Do this a few times and the put on your Du rag. Watch out you'll have waves deep enough to make a person seasick.

Do NOT use curlers. They will poof your hair out - and one thing you do not want is a women's 50's big hair doo.
Use gel after shampooing & drying. Comb in the waves. Let it air dry. They should stay. Or, get a crimping iron if the gel is not enough. See my link for crimping irons.

You have to keep brushing your hair forwards I believe..And use some type of wave grease, and wear a du-rag

if u want waves in yr hair go to the seashore, alternately if u want to curl yr hair, use curlers to make yr hair look like waves

you could try to mix water with salt in a spray bottle and then spray it on your hair

they have this thing called an s-curl. its strange but it makes it curly
