An exercise you might want to try is lay on the ground as if you were going to do a push up and push your upper body up while the lower half of your body stays touching the ground. When your arms reach full extension let out a deep breath of air so that the lower part of your back sags back to the ground. Do this 10 times about 3 times a day. I also recommend buying a foam roller. They are a little pricey but they are great, it stretches the muscles and your body feels so good and loose after. You may want to check your body posture also. I found that my knee pain was cause by not stretching my lower back, so i had bad knee pain which led to not running, barely walking, and no working out. My back was also hurting all the time and I just needed to stretch out my back and fix my body posture because I found that I was a little slumped over and my shoulders were not in line. You might want to exercise your lower back and abs as for this will strengthen your body and will not have as much pain.

Change your running shoes and inserts. The wrong foot support can cause back problems. Try doing stretching exercises before and after you run to keep your muscles from tightening up and cramping. You can take a little Advil or Tylenol if you really need it. How about going and getting a massage or going to a chiropractor?
