Breeding a one year old, is like a 12-14 year old child having a baby..she is not mature enough to stay healthy, or to be a good mom..Dogs shouldn''t be bred until the 'heat' following her second birthday...that is..if she loves her dog....Puppy mills will breed them as soon as they can, as they don't care about the mom's health...When they can get 5 pups at $300 each, they can just buy another mom dog if the young one becomes too ill...
They certainly don't care about how the mom dog will be as an old dog..with poor bone developement/arthritis, hip problems, etc..as they just let them die when they are past puppy production...They don't keep old dogs..

.Your friend will want to keep her dog when it is old..and there will be lots of vet bills, if the pup begins breeding too young.

This is all my opinion..I'm not a vet and I have obviously no sources....

But from personal experience I'd wait a year. I had a scare like 5 months ago with my now 1 year old Chihuahua and freaked out because I thought she was pg. The vet had already "yelled" at me telling me to wait a year to breed for the safety of the pet.
I guess it's all up to you it's your dog, but I will continue to keep my dogs separate until Maggie is 2 just for her safety. After all I don't want her having trouble or dying, she's only a little pup still!

A Year is way to early!!!! Your friend should wait until her dog is at least 2 years old....if she breeds her to soon the dog will still be a puppy her self and might not take care of the puppies. I don't think people realize how much can go wrong when you breed your dog....Your friends dog could have a chance of dying or there could be major complications....I would tell her to have her dog fixed and leave the breeding of dogs to those who have been doinging for many years.

Have you had all of your genetic testing done? If not, then do not breed. First of all you need to make sure both the male and female are healthy and the pups will be also. What problems are there in your breed? Don't know? You don't know enough to breed responsibly. I breed. I also do OFA (hip displaysia), thyroid, VwD (Van Wilderbrands disease - doggie hemphyllia), eyes. I also make sure the male I breed to also have all these things - and just to let you know - that is about $2000 per dog and the OFA cannot be done until the dog is at least 2 years old. Unless you know what you are doing - don't do it. If you want to learn to breed responsibly, let me know and I will start you in the right direction.

Dont breed at all, there is a pet overpopulation problem and millions of dogs and cats are dieing in shelters because idiots keep breeding. Not to mention there are always complications that can arrive during any pregnancy. The dog could die, all the puppies could die, she could get a uterine infection, being intact she is prone to many cancers that affect the reproductive organs.

I strongly disagree with beeding your dog. Go visit a shelter and see how many dogs have no homes and mutiply that by 100,000. There is no reason whatsoever to breed your own dog---I personally think its cruel and very irresponsible.
