I remember Mr. Wizard and 3-2-1 Contact when I was a kid. My son seems to be able to understand basic science concepts (at age 5) but I can't find anything out there for him. It seems to all be about either ABCs/123 or feelings. The show Ozzie and Drix helped him understand what happens when you get sick and how medicine works. But it doesn't seem to be on anymore.
Does everyone think that pre-k kids can't grasp science?

Some of the old shows are available on DVD/VHS now.

We occasionally watch "It's a Big, Big World" on PBS. It's mostly earth science (how things grow, different environments, etc.) but really good. Another one we watch is "Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman" also on PBS. It is a competition between kids where they have to complete certain tasks each day. It's not specifically science related, but there is some experimenting and things like that you can relate to science.

Check out the PBS site and look up your local channel and see what they have available. You can also sign up for their teacher previews email that gives you a list of programs that will be on for each subject for the next week and what grade level they are recommended for.

I think that in the age of frivilous lawsuits science shows have been blamed for some unfortunate accidents.

I am sure that many houses have been burned down as a result of trying to emulate Mr. Wizzard. I am sure that many kitchen utensils have been damaged and/or missing as a result of watching 3-2-1 Contact and then I wouldn't doubt that many rooms of livingroom furniture has been stained or soiled as a result of watching Bill Nye.

thanks to your government it wouldn't matter if there were science shows or not.your child would not be able to perform any projects until he was in his 5 Th year of college or so.
unfortunate chemistry sets now contain salt, vinegar, and baking soda, well, until the cpsc deems these chemicals to dangerous for the general public as well.
Mr. wizard started science when he was a young boy, he had a chemistry set where he was able to do a wide array of projects, this in turn sparked his imagination and began his life on a road that led him to the Mr. wizard show.
i actually saw a CNN report that discussed how children were loosing interest in science. a few weeks later i read an article in a magazine about how the cpsc has dismantled chemistry sets to the point where they have now become useless in the world of science.
please don't ask your question here, write to the cpsc and ask them why they feel they need to interfere where they don't belong, and how they plan to make up for the short comings in society.

Bill Nye the science guy was a God, lol! Not much good stuff on about science anymore... unfortunately! I think Bill Nye was suppose to come on the air 03APR but I have not seen it locally. I'd check local listings with your cable company to check! I would start looking for dvd's of his show if I had kids!!!

just found this...
http://www.eyesofnye.org/ Check and see if your state has any local stations that will carry it.

I think bill nye the science guy s still around, and there's this one show on pbs that has kids doing science experiments like making crystals and measuring distances things that they made can fly. All kids are different.

There is several on Nick Jr. but that I can remember, Zoom on PBS has cool stuff, and if you are looking for a more preschool age, try Little Einsteins on Disney.

They can grasp science. I have 10 year-old child and in her class-room they watch bill nye the science guy. She has really improved in science. She said they are fun and she enjoys them.
Hope that that helped you.

I suggest The Magic School Bus for shows. They also have books that are good. You can also go to www.stevespanglerscience.com for all kinds of interesting experiments and materials to use with your son.
