who can explain Adam and Eve?

We know that we are decendents of the ape, so I would like to know why this is in the bible?

we have been reading that wrong for a long time. i think it is two stories that have been spliced together over time. here is my retelling:

god created all things over a short period and realized that he did not know how to enjoy creation all alone. so he created man as a companion that he could share his gift with. man though, was very lonely and he felt that there was a mighty rift between himself and god. god was very big and man felt as though he needed someone not so intimidating. so god created woman, as someone who man could share creation with, and man said that's good! and god said that's good, you guys have fun with your new toys!

here's where i think we have grown confused...

eve wandered in the garden one day, and saw a tree she had never seen before. there was a snake in it, and it mentioned how tasty that fruit was. so she took some and brought it back to adam. and when they bit into it, they had a revelation. (because if you read genesis, it gets kind of confusing about what god actually says about the fruit and the garden. eve misquotes him to the snake, and adam who is standing right there doesn't bat an eye. weird huh? that's the part i noticed. )

this revelation was that the world had laws we could observe; we looked all around us and suddenly saw the universe in its startling compexity. and in that moment, we forgot how to feel childlike about the garden as we had when god was with us always. in fact, we thought we had been ejected from the garden because it looked so foreign with our new eyes.

that is why i think it is two stories that have grown together. i cannot rationalize that a god who was so happy to share his gift would be so arbitrary and bureaucratic about the rules. i think it is really our interpretation that has grown so flawed it no longer makes sense.

in closing, we are still in the garden... and we are still its stewards. and we are still responsible for tending it, because god's creation is our sanctuary. we need it, because we were made for it. and whether that creation was in an instant with a ball of dust that had life breathed into it from mighty lips, or in an epoch with millions of creatures being sculpted over time out of mud... we are here and if we can, we should try to be the stewards we should be.

Evolution of the Mind, Spirit and Soul, whit out the need of monkey? Just because evil was there to get in between what Adan could have teach eve, if he could have had the chance to do it, after long Hours naming plans Animals etc, etc. Man have create and invented some wonderful Stories along the way, but never like this.
