People say, "well i'm of german heritage so does that mean I can wave the Nazi flag as pride in my culture". That is ignorant at most. First off, not all germans agreed with the Nazi party, but most comformed so as not to be murdered or their families murdered. You can show german cultural heritage in many other ways not specifically the Nazi flag. Isn't this just a big misconception. How about waving the german flag as honor on the day the berlin wall was toppled? Has nothing to do with the Nazi's now does it.

I agree, who is saying any different? The Germans have a long history, the 3rd Reich was but a blip on the radar in comparison.

I've never heard such a ridiculous thing: "i'm of german heritage, can we waive the nazi flag". That doesn't sound remotely true. National socialism is outlawed in Germany and has been outlawed since the war.

There are national socialists all over the world if one really wants to be technical about it. Plenty in the US, for that matter, but because of the war, national socialism is automatically associated with Germany. It really would be nice if more people actually read up on this material.

I see nothing wrong with them waving their flags, like we've seen during the Soccer world cup. The country today is not even remotely what it was 60 years ago and neither are the people. For pity sakes.. it's been 3 generations and I personally am sick of the "bad germans, they're all nazis" crap.

I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about, but I think being a Nazi has little to do with being a German. Being proud of Germany and German heritage doesn't exclude being embarrassed by the Nazi party and Nazi Germany. I'd say that a lot of Americans are still embarrassed about slavery, but not everyone is going around being proud of the slave-owning America. There are many other facets to being American and American culture than owning slaves, which is just a bad piece of history.

Germans can be proud of their scientific achievements, their food, songs, great composers, beer, whatever.

Wave your flag. That is fine with me. Just respect the American flag. This is the US, the US flag should be high than the rest. I am German but do not fly the German flag. My choice. Just respect the US Flag. It may not mean something to you but to many soldiers and citizens it does.

Racism is a bias like all other prejudices. I am an American but I do not agree with our politics most of the time!@

The point is that immigrationally speaking, people don't want it to be a melting pot.

They want to "preserve their culture" with all the benefits of the american culture.

Used to be, when you immigrated to America, you did it to become and AMERICAN, not to become a "hyphenated-American".
