The real reason is that you are probably looking for a color/option combination that's tough to find.

I'll give you an example: If you want a civic (EX with a red exterior/tan leather interior with sunroof and in automatic, with a CD player), that car might exist in a different color, or in manual transmission or with black cloth or whatever reason, there is not a lot that have EVERY option you are looking for.

Another thing people do not realize is that just because another Honda dealer has the exact car you are looking for, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to give it to your dealer. Every Honda dealership is in competition (albeit "friendly" competition) with each other, and unless your dealer has a car of equal or greater value to trade for it, the other dealership might hold onto it because they know it's rare, and the old law of supply and demand works in their favor. They could sell it for more than a run-of-the-mill Civic that everybody else has.

If you want to expedite this, the best thing to do is tell your salesman what options you might be flexible on (external color/interior color) and give them a "drop dead date". (Meaning, if they don't find your car in X days, you get your money back.)

If you absolutely have to have everything exactly the way you want it, it might be better just to place a factory order. That means Honda builds your car from scratch, exactly the way you want it. It usually takes 6-8 weeks.

i dont think that you actually own the car yet. you have not driven it off the lot. i work at a car dealership i am pretty sure that untill you drive it off the lot you are not the owner and can back out of the deal they will try and make you think that you are the owner but on the real you must drive it off the lot. but the reason for the long wait is that they are trying to dealer trade one in from another dealer. or waiting for one to come from the factory. i asked out finance manager and he said that you can back out of the deal you have not driven it of the lot and the only thing that you would be responcible for is the cost involved in finding the car which in your case they have no car so you should not have any responcibly of anything.

Read your contract, does it say anything about waiting for your car that long? Did you know that they were going to find a civic for you? You should of gave them a deposit and when they found the civic you pay them in full. You'll have to wait if you already signed.

NO! They are in very short supply right now... selling like hotcakes. They were probably waiting on a shipment that was delayed.

Not that unusual....it can take time esp. if you want a specific color...give them another week..they will find it...they do not make any money if they cannot sell cars
