I am writting again and want to add few more details, coze i see your interest in my question.Honestly, its me who suffer from bulimia,i was to shy to addmit it from the begining..It started when i was 17 and i tried loose some weigh, and i did, quite a lot-10 kilos, but then after finishing my diet i didn want to put on weigh again so i started to eat and then to vomit what i ate.Fact, when i was younger i had much less self-confidence and i tried to chear myself up by eating as well.My parents knew about my problems with food, but they couldnt help, couldnt understand me..Whats more im 21now,so it really doesnt matter if they know or not.And after all they are in Poland now and i moved to Ireland to start my own,new life.I used to attend on few therapies, but it didt work..I thing im quite stronger now, mentaly stronger, but my problem is that sometimes i still cant resist not to eat and vomit.I think now it depends only on me,i should say to myself:i can stop doing it! Do you agree??

The stage that you're at now can be a very difficult one. First things first - safety. The stomach acid is doing a lot of damage. After you are sick, have something like a yoghurt which lines your stomach, and a large glass of water. Then clean your teeth. Thoroughly. many bulimics lose their teeth by the time they are 40.

Bulimia (and other eating disorders) is about control. (Weight is something easily controlled when we are out of, or feel we have no control) It would appear from your question that you are at the stage where you want to control the bulimia, but are finding that it is controlling you?

You say that you have had therapies but they didn't work, yet you also say that you are now mentally stronger so I would suggest that you did receive some benefit?

I cannot counsel you in this medium, but a few pointers (To take to a good counsellor?):-

Work on your self esteem. Not from an external view, (you will realise how beautiful you are when you get over your hangups) but from an internal one. Ask your friends what they like about you. This can be difficult to hear, and harder to accept. agree with them and repeat it. eg "I've heard you say that you like my sense of humour. Yes I am funny!" repeat this to yourself until you believe it. Notice when people laugh at your jokes to affirm it.

Take note of how OLD you FEEL before you are sick, while you are being sick and afterwards when you feel guilty. If you had a child of that age, what would she need? How would you nurture and comfort her? (try to keep the emphasis off food) now do that for yourself. eg if you are visual and you would like to hold your "inner child" curl up and imagine yourself at age 21, cuddling yourself at age 6. Play in the park. Some people get a doll that looks similar to them at that age, call it by a nickname that they may have been called, and nurture that dolly.

Laughter is hugely important. Find out what you think is funny and laugh as much as you can. Laughter has even been known to cure terminal cancer!

Don't be afraid to ask for what you need, and find friends that can provide that. Ask for hugs (I recommend everyone has an older female friend, for eating disorders it is good if she is a little overweight, that really likes hugs. - if you don't know any, you could start looking in a church as there is an abundance there! LOL)

Take note of the areas of your life where you have some control. There are more than you think. What you wear, how you do your hair, how often you wash, how quickly you walk etc etc etc.

Respect your achievements. From your question you have achieved what many would like to do. You are travelling, you have mastered a foreign language. and so on.

Find something other than food to "fill" or "fulfil" you.

Recovering from bulimia takes more than telling yourself to stop, but I can cite many cases of complete recovery. Not all counsellors are good (few as good as me LOL) and sometimes we don't click with the good ones, but counselling does help.

Bulimia is not something to try and tackle on your own. I've been bulimic for 6 years now, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Sweetie you need help, a therapist, support group, hospital, whatever. Just something before it completely controls your life. It's not a life I would suggest to anyone.

i know how you feel. i am sufferer of the illness and have been for past 12 years. i go through days where i make myself sick and periods of months where i tell myself to stop. the doctor told my mum that when you have a eating disorder you will always have it. if you have deteramtion to stop that you can. it be hard @ first but time is a great healer and you MUST talk to someone close to you when you feel the urge to make urself sick.talking helped me stop for about 7 years then my aunt died last year and i have been making myself sick nearly everyday. you might not have problem like me of having ur 3 yr old copy what you do. that is my reason i want to stop. if you go to your GP they can refer you to specialist who deals with eating disorders.i am and it helps.

hope this helps.
if not message me and i will talk to you.

Normally bulimia needs outside help for a counselor or psychologist. Maybe a support group might help too. Go to http://www.geocities.com/helpprob
