Yorkies are bred to hunt small vermin (hamsters are small vermin). Most terrier breeds, in fact, were developed for that purpose. It is instinct, but you may be able to introduce a young dog to hamsters and be ok. It would have to be exposed to them at an early age and consistently, though. Cats can even be introduced to such "prey" items at an early age and get along with them.

Yorkies are NUTS. I have one, had one long ago. They go ape sheet over anything that moves. Mine used to chase the school bus, getting right under it's tires. If my bird got out, my yorkie would attack it like a nut bar. Keep them away from eachother. You may not have enough reaction time to save the hamster and its not worth seeing your yorkie as a killer. :)

Yorkies were bred to catch rats in England so to them a hamster may just be a small rat, I guess.

Yorkies are terriers - they are hunting dogs. I think hamsters would be the right size for them to hunt.

Yes. They were originally bred to be ratters, and to kill rodents.
