Activities where you fit in - see if some of the churches you are interested in trying have a web page listing their activities and then get in touch with someone in the church office. It worked for me!

Wonderful! I just found a church in the past year that I love!
I wanted a church that is small enough to be personal, yet contemporary enough to keep growing and keep me interested.
The best advice that I can give is to phone the churches near you and ask to visit with the pastor for a few minutes. Ask the same questions that you really need to know and walk with them through the church. Ask about ministries, clubs, events and study groups even if you are not ready to join one yet. This will give you an idea of how progressive they are as a growing place.
If they are limited to study groups or show little interest in community service, this may be a bit too traditional for you. They may be complacent in just worship on Sunday and a picnic in the summer.
Visit several that fall into a Bible based service with both kinds of music, then attend both to make your choice. Sure it takes time, but don't you want worshipping the best event in your week?
God bless you

What are you going to do when you get old? If you are looking for a church that plays young people of today music and don't preach the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified it would be just as good for you to stay at home. 1 Corinthians 1: 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. The local church is where you go to learn God's Word so you can be an ambassador for Christ in a lost and dying world. 2 Corinthians 5: 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

The closer you are to a metro area or a large college, the more likely that you'll find a "young person's church". Many contemporary churches meet in High Schools. They usually appeal to the younger crowd. Check your local newspaper (they usually have a local church section). Also, do a search online for websites of churches in your area. Churches that appeal to the younger crowd ARE out there, and they teach about the truth, love, logic, and free will that God created.

If you are not choosing a church based on faith, but instead on the age of the congregation you might as well go to a night club.

Look for a non denominational church. They are usually less formal, word based and youth friendly. I wish you the best.
