All the leftover scraps, skins, and fats from the good meats (that fall on the floor) are scooped up and squished into a block. This is called Spam.

Spam is a canned meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation.

Spam has gained a peculiar infamy out of all proportion for a mere grocery store item, and has even entered into folklore and legend.

Spam is produced in (among other places) Austin, Minnesota, USA (aka Spam Town USA). The labeled ingredients in the original variety of Spam are chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added, salt, water, sugar, and sodium nitrite.

Other varieties of Spam differ; Spam Lite contains pork and chicken, and Spam Oven Roasted Turkey is a halaal food, meaning that it is allowed under Islamic law, and is especially popular in Muslim markets. It also comes in a low-salt variety.

Like most other luncheon meats, Spam is precooked. However, Spam is often pan-fried or otherwise heated through again to impart a pleasing texture and flavor.

Spam is the world's most harmless meat.

SPAM is a combination of the words "Spiced Ham" . It's a pork product made from the leftovers of pork processing. It's considered a delicacy in Hawaii which has the highest SPAM consumption per capita. Hormel has a section of their website devoted to the history of SPAM.

My Singaporean friends dunno what the hell spam is. Over here in Australia they claim it to be a mix of lowest graded meats like chicken, ham, etc. Having said that and being a Singaporean myself, I always have such fun eating them with rice. Its something like kangkong i would say, also rated on the most thrashy, lowest graded green but perfect on the taste and satisfaction level. I wouldn't know if there is a difference between SPAM and luncheon meat though...

I think guitar chick got it right.. It is all the nasty bits the can't sell any other way.

Sort of like what they put in really cheap corned beef and mince. (If you look really carefully, you can sometimes see pieces of blood vessel and bone fragments)
