Vanity and the way the media and everyone else believe we all should look like Paris Hiton or the Ashley twins. When that is not reality. Everyone on every TV show is perfect. So in our little pea brains we think we should be like that too. In my pea brain though I feel that health is a greater challenge than being perfect.

You can't 'see' your health turning from bad to worse. Your best 'friends' aren't going to say, " Hey! Your health is looking great !." However, you can definitely see your weight increasing or decreasing on the weighing scale. You can see all the flab in the mirror too. Worse still, people around you are probably going to say, "Hey, are you eating? You look anorexic!" or "Wow, you have grown bigger!" We obsess with our weight because it's more obvious than health. Health, in a way, is hidden. Only we know if we are in good health and not others.

Because weight is more obvious to the observers eye... We are a VERY visual species because of the really cool layout of our eyes, you know, stereoscopic and all that... So you can't really SEE a persons health unless they have something obvious like jaundice and such. But you can see weight gain or loss pretty easily. I recently lost 10 little pounds and all of a sudden all these girls that I know are way more interested in me than they were 10 pounds ago.

I'm FOXY!!

In an overweight society watching your weight is healthy. But people caring about appearance rather than health is natural especially for young people. Looking good offers immediate gratification...increased self confidence & attention from the opposite sex. Weight related health issues might seem far away to many young people...til it hits them in the face. Diabetes...not me! Hypertension...youre kidding!?

I know I completely agree with you. When I eat something that I know I shouldn't be eating.. I don't care about what it's going to do to my weight, I care about my health, because my family has really bad cholesterol and high blood pressure problems. I know one day that it will catch up with me too. Good Question.

Personally- I care about my wt, because I felt so much healthier, energized, stronger when I was lighter. People will look @ me now and say I look fine, but when I was lighter (by 15 lbs) I knew I was healthier. The way I worked out, ate, even emotionally healthier. I "obsess" about my wt, because I feel unhealthy now. It's a hard one.

Because people don't go around saying things like "hey you look healthy today" LOL. But, yes people should be concerned with health.

Beacause they think that being skinny helps you to find a date. It does make you look sexier but I would never date a girl who was aneorexic unless she got therapy.
