i do agree but i happen to be a lighter theif myself! its hard not to especially when you are drinking. usually i come home with like 4 or 5 new lighters!

Oh, I really hate that! That's when I borrow it from you and put it in my pocket and walk away, right?! I am one of those who do that to others. I do it with pens too. I can not help myself, I have gotten better though. I use and give back immediately so I don't kife the lighter/pen/other asst'd items.

It is annoying. But you can stop it, or prevent it.
Invest and buy an unusual refillable lighter.
Buy the cheap ones in bulk. 3 for 99 cents...
Use sharpie marker to label your lighters.
(Please, PLEASE do not try to carve on a plastic lighter. Contents under pressure, anyone?)

I think it 's a matter of reflexes. Sometimes "smokers" just put a lighter that's not theirs in their pocket from sheer reflexes. But, I do hate it though.

No - it gives me a reason to dig in their pocket or purse and find things I might want from them!

Just buy cheap ones and then it doesn't matter if they take it or not
