My boyfriend's really nice, and thinks a lot about me. Whenever we're with a big group of people, mainly guys, he acts really affectionate. LIke he holds my hand and hugs me. But when we're with just a few people he doesn't act like that. It doesn't bug me or anything, I'm just curious as to why he does this. Any ideas?

When your boyfriend holds your hand and hugs you in a group of people, that's showing everyone you belong to him. When there isn't many around he feels he doesn't need to show this because there's no competition with others. Guys will so odd things sometimes because of insecurity, just as us females may. I think you have a compassinate guy there, so hold on to him. Cocoa

Maybe the more people around makes him feel shy. As we all know males and females think nothing alike. Guys think they have to keep up this macho image. Showing affection in front of a crowd might make him think that people will think hes whipped or weak. Guys think crazy stuff like that where we wouldn't think that way at all. If hes good to you and isn't rude to you in front of people? I wouldn't worry about it. Just give him a little more space when you see he's acting this way. I'm sure it has nothing to do with you.

He is probably showing those other guys that you are taken happily! He doesn't want any of them getting the idea that you are not happy because then those guys will try to make a move on you. My boyfriend does the same thing... it will get better with time.... he will soon be like that all the time or slow it down a little... depends on the guy... good luck!

Its possible that in a more intimate social setting, (less friends but he is closer to them), he wants to spend a little more time developing his other friendships. Nobody wants to be the guy who is so focused on his gf that all his other friendships suffer.

Why don't you just ask him? Make sure you tell him it doesn't bug you...that will be an important factor.

When hes around big crowds of mostly guys, he might feel the need to show everyone that yall are together and be protective, he might not feel the need to do that in a smaller intimate crowd.

He just wants to show that he's a man and can hold on to his chick...it could be worse. I know a lot of guys that are total jerks to their girlfriends in public but are sweet when no one is looking. Consider yourself lucky.

Well the "mainly guys" part may have something to do with it. He's claiming his property. Just don't give him any reason to feel that you would be unfaithful. Give him some sense of security.

Looks like he likes to show off that ur together and happy.
If u have a problem with this, talk to him. I dont know what i could possibly tell u, there is no one answer to why he is like this and why would u care why? If u want him to change then talk to him, there is no magic way to change him.

He feels like he has better control of you in a small group. In a large group, it is easier to keep tabs on you if you are close.
Though, it is probably not a conscience thing on his part.
