My 4 yr old LOVES books, puzzles, mazes, and the little activity books with the pages that you find the one that doesn't belong or where you match the things in 2 columns. Also dress up clothes, or dolls with accessories.

Anything leapfrog or leap pad would be a great idea, also books you can never go wrong with books, depends on what she likes :Disney,Barbie,Dolls,etc.. Or you can take her to a Build-A-Bear Workshop and she can build her own stuffed animal, they can even record her voice so when she pushes a button what she recorded will play !! I did that for my 4 year old daughter and she loves it !

Get her an abacus. This simple yet stimulating toy will go just as far in helping her develop her intellect than any electronic gadget with all the bells and whistles.

It will help her with her math and she can also choose to use it however she wants. This toy will exercise her imagination as well.

You said she was smart, but didn't say what she likes to do. Get her something that is her taste, but also good for her development... LeapFrog, Hi-Tech, etc. I saw a toddler laptop that was teaching how to count, read, etc. and kids have to actually use mouse and keyboard. I beilive it was for 5 years, but since she is smart, then she could probably use it early.

For the parents sake, nothing messy.

try a personal CD player, (they are fairly inexpensive these days, and you would want a cheap one any way so if she tears it up, oh well) and a children's CD or CD with a book that she can read as she listens to the story.

Is she into art? Buy her an easel, with a paint brush, chalk, or other coloring ideas. She can practice writing, drawing etc on it. It will give her hours of fun and boost creativity.

See if you have a Lakeshore in your area or some kind of teaching supply store. There you will find many ideas of things you can get her. Good luck.

Adopt a child in a 3rd world country.
Then your daughter can write to her/him and receive correspondence back.
Open her eyes to other lives and create a possible friendship.
