ask them... what is popular or unique.

i know streaking is now getting old.. hey i know get blonde with darker hair underneath then get it cut so the front is a little longer than the back and have it so it rolls upward to the jawline.

with the front being just long enough it touches the shoulders.

i'd love to have that.

do over do the blonde. only go 2-3 shades lighter thatn your natural the first time you highlight! that's what i do with my clients, that way if they like it, they can always go lighter, but if they aren't quite sure about it, it'll grow out. also, just get a partial foil to begin with, that way it's only on the top which is where highlights from the sun would be. in my opinion the perfect example of natural nice looking highlights is jennifer aniston. her hair looks very natural, but you can definetly tell there are different shades! and taking in a picture is the best thing you can do for yourself and the stylist. that way you both have a good idea about what is going on and what your hair is going to look like.

Depending on what color your natural hair is: Tell them you would like foil highlights, but you want to keep them heavy and small (no chunks). Make sure you repeat this term, no chunks! This will enable you to get plenty of highlight, but prevent a line of demarkation when it grows out.

Good Luck

Look through books to get an idea of what you want. The pictures don't have to be of the exact color that you want. Pick pictures that have the amount of highlights that you want then look for the color that you want.

I want to do that to but I was told that if you dont like what they do they can redo it as many times you would like. I also think if you have really dark brown hair dont get it done. But thats just my opinion. If you have blond I would put light brown highlights in it THAT is GORGIESS!

go for the foil weave. it get's closer to the scalp and will look as natural as you want to make it. some prefer more at the top, and less on the rest. be creative. find a picture you like, that will give your stylist a view of what you have in mind, or what you definitely don't want.

tell them you don't want it too blonde. really speak up during the process to tell the colorist what you want. if you don't like it at the end, ask for a correction right then and there.

too many girls stay quiet when getting their hair done, and don't say anything if they don't like what the stylist is doing. don't be one of those girls. just have some confidence and tell them what you want.

Get a color a couple shades lighter than your natural hair color, that way it looks natural.

you are able to tell them precisely what percentage you want- the position to position them, what colour to cause them to... they are there to make you satisfied... deliver images if youcan, don't sense intimidated and ask for precisely what you want. in the adventure that they are reliable- they are going to be better than satisfied to do this for you. As a hairstylist myself it truly is a excitement for me even as someone is provided in and knows precisely what they want- i do not get mad or disenchanted. It incredibly makes my interest that a lot a lot less complicated.
