Probably your best option is to go to a cat shelter. Most likely you'll only have to pay for the shots, about $20. Plus you'll be taking home a cat that doesn't have a home.

buying a cat in a pet store most likely to pay $300 - $600 unless ur looking 4 a purebred registered cat going to a breeder nearest you would be better than that so u could see how its raised as well as see the parents. if r don't care if is purebred or not, check a animal shelter near you. u may pay couple hundred there too depending on the shelter, this helps cover the cost of shots/speutering and u would be saving a cats life.

I very much admire the pet stores. They have stopped "selling" cats and dogs from animal mills. Mostly they have cats from humane societies and rescue organisations.
Usually the cats are speutered, have basic shots and have had a veterinary check. Almost any price is appropriate since the cats have had these veterinary services. If you get a cat from a neighborhood litter you must take on all these expenses yourself and you also subtly encourage owners to add to the criminal overpopulation problem by not taking the reponsibility of preventing their cat's breeding.

If you go to a shelter you can probably find a cat for around 60 dollars and they have already been checked for illness and had vaccinations. Since you don't have a desired breed, you can find some really nice and interesting cats at the shelter, and you are giving them a second chance, because they might have been thrown onto the highway if the shelter hadn't picked them up for whatever reason.

go to a shelter and adopted one or find someone who is getting rid of a litter. ask to see the parents, you can usually tell if they are healthy or not and take it to a vet after you get it for shots and a check up. the cost of what you would pay at a pet store would be about the same anyway. pet stores are not a good place to buy cats!

In some animal shelters they are 15 dollars, If it that cheap they probably haven't had their shots. Normally in a regular pet store a cat ranges from 50 to 120 dollars but most are 60, that usually includes all of their shots. I highly recommend that you get one from a kill shelter though.

Avoid pet stores. There's many cats that need good homes available at various shelters. I don't think you should have to purchase a cat. Why don't you check out:

Cats are usually free. Go to a shelter and adopt one OR wait until a cat comes to you. I have four who found me.
