If you have a wire trash basket and a 5gl. pail you're ok. Put the basket in the pail, dump in the litter and sift. Thats how I do ALL the time. Of couse my Stimpy's litter box holds"20lb. of litter". Add a diving-board and everyone is happy.LUCK with your new joy!

Most grocery stores, Wal-Marts etc. carry litter scoops. For the time being, if you have a large, slotted spoon or spatula that you can use ONLY for the litter box would work. Anything that has openings in the bottom so that the litter can pass through and keep the bms. etc. will work. Also, if you don't have anything like I've described, take an inexpensive baggie type bag - put it over your hand and lift the litter out manually till you can get to the store. Hope this helps.

A wire or plastic strainer will work, but you won't be able to use it for food again!
A wire screen would work for the poop. If you have clumping litter, the urine can also be taken out with the screen. You can pour the litter into another container that has the screen on top.
Or use a small amount of screen, the size of a scoop plus extra to hold it (cover the handle with tape so you won't get scratched). It is easily bendable so you shouldn't have a any problems making a scoop.

The scoopers you're talking about are often available in the pet aisle of grocery stores.
Do you have any of those little toy shovels laying around? That'll work, but you'll want to soak it in bleach once you get a scooper. Or if you have an extra slotted spoon sitting around the house, that will work too. Though I don't think your mom will be happy about it, it'll be better than letting the litter box get loaded. And again, you'll want to soak it in some VERY STRONG cleaner afterwards.
Good luck!

use an old container or perhaps a ladle if you are permitted to. It would work just as well. Oh and for less work, (or litter accuracy) fill the box with 3-5 inches of litter. no more, no less. Cats are known for digging around in thereand you wouldnt want sand or pebbles all over your floor.

If you cut the end off a P.E.T softdrink bottle (not the end with the cap) and shape it so there is more on top than the bottom, you can use that as a scoop.

Use a spoon (slotted spoon works well). Just make sure you don't put it back!
