Our 2 year anniversary is coming up shortly. I wanted to do something really nice and meaningful, so I thought that I would have an artist create a larger portrait of his late father. He only has a wallet picture of him. I asked his friend about the idea, and he said he wouldn't do it. He passed away in 2002. I really don't want to upset him, but I think its a good idea

Thank you guys for your support! I think its a nice gift for him. I didn't know because thankfully I never had anyone close to me pass away. Whenever he talks about his father, he doesn't get upset. He always talks about the good times. I think he would like it, but I'm second guessing it due to the fact that I never experienced such a loss and the last thing I want to do is hurt the man I love

i think it is a good idea, too...it may make him sad a bit, but he will love it forever, and you are very thoughtful in doing this...i would love a portrait of my parents...they are both gone...
it is a nice and meaningful gesture...it lets him know that you are aware of his feelings and that you love him. go ahead and do this...he will be pleased.

Personally, I would love it. I think that's a very thoughtful idea. I hope your husband will like it. When you give him the present, just tell him that you had 2nd thoughts about the portrait and that you're not trying to upset him or make him sad. That you put a lot of thoughts into it and that you wanted to give him something special.

If you are having doubts, then you should pick out something else. You don't know how your spouse is going to react, and there's nothing worse than conjuring up bad memories during a time when you're supposed to be celebrating each other.
However, if you really like the idea, you should find out how he feels about it. That will take away the surprise element, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

My grandpa died many many years ago and a couple Christmases ago, my uncle drew a very large potrait of him when he was a little boy for my grandma. We all cried, including my grandma, but now that picture hangs right in her front hall and she loves it. I know this is a little different because he passed away so long ago, but I think in the long run he may really appreciate it - but you know him the best. Good luck!

i think it's an awesome gift! That way, you can put the picture on the wall...Personally, i would take it to a portrait studio to have the same picture restored & enlarged instead of having an artist do it.

I think its a wonderful idea. My father suddenly passed away 3 months before I was married. I would love to have one done for me.
Keep it a surprise though...........Its better that way.

Depending on the type of relationship they had... I think it is a great idea, and something I would probably do also.... Good luck and I hope he likes it.

GREAT IDEA...GO FOR IT. IT'S BETTER THAN A STORE BOUGHT GIFT THAT WILL WIND UP IN A CLOSET OR DRAWER. THIS WOULD REALLY SHOW HIM UR TRUE LOVE, ESPECIALLY IF HE & HIS DAD WERE CLOSE. I LOST MY DAD 3 YEARS AGO..HE WAS MY BEST FRIEND, AND STILL TODAY, PEOPLE GIVES ME THINGS. I LOVE EVERYONE OF THEM. AND WILL TREASURE THEIR GIFTS ALWAYS... GOODLUCK & GOD BLESS...
