OK 2 THINGS THAT WORK BESIDE WATER
#1 THEY HAVE A SPRAY YOU CAN GET AT ALMOST ANY PET STORE IT HAS A SMELL THAT CTAS HATE
#2 THEY ALSO HAVE A 2 SIDED STICKY TAPE THAT IS NOT DAMAGING TO WALLS YOU ALSO CAN GET AT ANY PET STORE
I USE THE TAPE IT SEEMS TO WORK BETTER FOR MY CAT.

First you have to give the cat somewhere else to claw. at least one clawing post in each room that he does this.

Then show him the scratch post, rub some catnip on it. The best scratch posts are made with SISAL ROPE. make sure
the scratching post is secure, the cat would use it if it's rocks back and forth. they think it will fall on them.

Then you have to spray cat "NO" on the wall. This is a smelly substance in a spray can. it usually wears off in a few days. Most of the time you can't smell it but the cat can.

If you want, use double sided (but weak) tape on the wall where the cat likes to scratch. Don't make it very strong tape or it will rip the paint off when you try to remove it. Scotch tape with double siding might work ( take a piece of tape and roll it around so the sticky part is around the outside.)

Never try to punish the cat yourself. The cat doesn't understand that you are upset with him 'cause of the clawing on the wall, the cat will just think you're crazy. You have to put the punishement for using the wall be associated with the wall. (like the tape).

Try pasting scotch tapes at the areas that your cat claw so it gets entangled with their paw & they probably get irritated.

Or each time they claw, lock them in a cage.

Or buy a new toy for them to claw. They are availables in pet shops.

Get a spray bottle and squirt him everytime he does it. They freak out and learn to associate the water with clawing and that it is NOT a good thing and that he doesn't want to get sprayed. It works wonders on any negative thing the cat does. Scratching/biting/getting into places you dont want them.

Is either filing its claws or wants to go up the wall

You can put some double sided tape there. First stick and unstick it to your shirt three or four times, so its not very sticky, and use that side to stick to the wall. The other side will be for the cat to get stuck. Hehee.

Get an alternative like a scratch post or other things to play with.

A bullet to the head should end your problem and keep it from ever happening again
