They say they can get pg any of the 3 weeks, )one week before, the one week during and the one week after.) I bought pet diapers at the local store for my Chihuahua which is also a purebred and is training for show. (What people don't understand is you lose points and you also can only enter certain evens if your purebred is fixed.) The diapers work great, they just slip on and have a basically a pantyliner stuck in them. For larger dogs though I would go to a reg store and just buy some womens overnight pads. Just in case they have to tinckle in them you won't have a huge mess. You can get those diapers at any Petco or Petsmart store. Good luck remember heat is twice a year!!

She is now "in training" for what???????
Raally, if you do not know these simple things abput heat cycles and showing, and breeding, and health clearances...you should be spaying and neutering and having pets.
This is BASIC stuff that one finds out BEFORE the female comes into heat. You know you hace a female and she is not spayed. So you know she will come into heat. You have internet access, so you could have, in 6 months, done a little research into the topic. This is why some of us get on you people. You have no nothing for yourself, and now what answers that may or may not be good. You need FACTS!!!! The breeder you got your dog from should be able to answer a lto of your questions. If they are unwilling to do that, then spay the dog because you got it from a backyard breeder.

Get the dog spayed! Too many irresponsible pet owners on this planet already. I used to kill healthy dogs and cats every day for a living when i worked at the local humane society. I would hear all the sorry assed excuses...
I did not know she was in heat...
I did not think she would get pregnant...
I put her up and she still got out...
I want to breed her so she can have a litter of puppies (which i don't want to be responsible for, and i can just turn them over to the humane society when i get tired of them so they can kill them)
GET YOUR DAMN DOG FIXED!

It will very from dog to dog, but typically dogs stay in heat for around 2 weeks. You should watch her though, and still keep her isolated from dogs a few days after she appears to be out of heat--just in case.

Why not get her spayed now---what is the point of having her create more and more dogs? There are far too many dogs in this country as it is. She may be beautiful and you may like to witness the great miracle of birth---if thats the case, go to your humane society ---you can see lots of birth there.

a dog is in heat 7 days going in and 7 going out. When the discharge turns a dark brown is the time she is most likely to "take" or "stick". dont allow her contact with any other males until that time.

I keep mine under close watch for the full 3 weeks.
Most of the time they are only fertile on certain days, but there are always exceptions and they can easily fool you. I once had a girl that I was certain was out of season, but then I caught her with one of my boys! There have been plenty of reports of females getting bred very early or very late in their season.
