Is there any link between cancer and being round chicken hatcheries/farms?.?

Many of my relatives in AL have come down with different forms of cancer and have either lived on or work on chicken hatcheries and farms. They all have another thing in common:well water. Thanks for any feedback.

The answer to your question is difficult to know. It is conceivable that a chemical that they are exposed to in working with the chickens could be an unrecognized carcinogen. It is also possible that there could be a virus of some nature that they are being infected with from the chickens. Viruses have been implicated as causative agents in certain types of tumors.

Contaminants in water could be a cause too. That could be either chemicals that have drained into the water table or naturally occurring minerals in the water. There are tumor registries designed to monitor cancer incidence by geographic region and if water was the source, a unusual pattern should have been detected.

Alternatively, it could be random chance. If you flip enough coins, you can end up with several "heads" in a row. That could be happening.

If you really wanted to follow-up on this, you might see if you could find an epidemiologist interested in cancer in that area. You could probably find one at the University of Alabama Birmingham Cancer Center.
