Everyone in the world should be fighting terrorism. However, there is a great disagreement as to where and how we are to do this. It certainly was not the invasion of Iraq, and the pursuit of Saddam Hussein. I think it is obvious he ruled a can of worms that was fraught with terrible crimes against humanity, but there were no weapons of mass destruction and no direct link to terrorism in this country.
We Americans are squandering our resources trying to set up a puppet democracy where the people are not ready for it. What ever happened to the pursuit of the individuals and organizations responsible for 9/11? We have a low level hunt going on in Afghanistan, and have pretty much ignored the rest of the havens of terrorism, like Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. We have no clear policy against terrorists and terrorism, but we pursue the occupation of Iraq under the guise of anti-terrorism, while the truth is that we are protecting and expanding our oil interests.
The way I personally feel, is that we should admit to the world what we are really up to, and lets the chips fall where they may. If it ends up that we withdraw from the middle east, then make some clear plans as to what and how we are going to proceed. Just stop bullshitting the rest of the world and making us look like the biggest idiots in the world.

Yes we should. It would be better if we could move the war on Terror to Saudi Arabia, who did actually sponsor the attacks, however the terrorist have chosen to fight us in Iraq. They are caught between a rock and a hardplace just as we are. If they do not fight us in Iraq, Iraq will become a democracy, and democracy will blossom throughout the middle east. This will totally mess up their recruiting. If we pull out of Iraq we are giving the terrorist a new stronghold.
We have already seen that sanctions do not work. France, Germany, and Russia ignored the sanctions.

I heard a reporter the other day say something that was very accurate. He said that it is the terrorists who want the U.S. out of the Middle East and the rest of the populace who want the U.S. to stay to prevent them from being taken over and have total anarchy prevail. I feel the United Nations should take a more active role in the whole mess because of the civil rights violations that are occurring, especially against women. I am not happy about sending our young men and women to fight in a war that is similar to Vietnam.

We are not fighting a "war on terrorism?" The war in Iraq is not a war on terrorism. The Iraqi government was not a terrorist threat to the US. The war in Afganistan is not a war on terrorism, but rather a war against the Taliban government that had been in power.
I read with interest some of the other responses where people resort to calling Muslims derrogatory names. It is always easier to kill people, particularly innocent people when you try to dehumanize them by calling them names. I can only be thankful that the Christian Right is supporting Bush bring God to our side of this killing.

YES, if not now, when? If not in the Mid-east, where, here?
The Islamo-facists brought it here at least twice, they deserve to have it in their own yard.
The liberal world is still asleep as they are attacked across the globe..... or that liberal twisted element just doesn't care.

No........we are fighting for a lie!
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to (sic) media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed
to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
