It makes no sense, which is what faith is all about - blind belief in nonsense.

Human sacrifice was forbidden by Jewish law. God stopped Abraham from sacrificing his son to teach him that other nations make human sacrifices, but a human sacrifice is never acceptable to the Israelite God.

Israelites made many sacrifices just as all other nations did, but the aroma was the only part meant for God. All sacrifices had to be "without blemish" and could only be offered by Levites in the Temple.

Jews do not receive atonement from God until they have first received forgiveness from the injured party and have demonstrated that they will not sin again. Only then can they ask forgiveness from God.

It is the Christian God that accepted a blemished sacrifice in its entirety (no aroma) so that Christians can be forgiven without making amends.

Jews have not made any sacrifices since the destruction of the 2nd Temple because all sacrifices had to be made from the Temply by Levites in a manner prescribed in Leviticus. Since that time, sacrifice has been replaced by prayer.

Shalom

It is not justice. Justice would be forcing us each to pay the full price for all our sins. What God is offering us is mercy.

That is why Christ is called a Savior, because he willingly took upon him our punishment so that he could stand between us and our sins and allow God to be both merciful and just. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, God's laws can be fulfilled (that a law broken requires a consequence be paid) while at the same time offering us mercy (allowing imperfect us to enter into heaven).

No human is innocent, everybodys sinned before. God the Father sent His own Son Jesus to pay the penalty for us, cuz Jesus was capable of leading an innocent, blameless life, and becuz God loves us. God couldve laid the hammer down and punished the guilty aka all of us. then we'd pay with a second death, burning in hell. but by sendin His Son to die for us God has given us a way out of the second death that we owe. Y? We r His creation and He loves us.

“The Son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his soul a ransom in exchange for many.” (Matthew 20:28) Jesus had to lay down his right to life as a perfect human so as to repurchase mankind from the sinful state inherited from Adam. That is a basic Bible teaching—the ransom.

What does the ransom involve? I'd like to share an illustration that might help you to understand.
Suppose you had a computer but one of its electronic files was corrupted by an error (or virus) that someone had planted in an otherwise perfect program. That illustrates the effect of what Adam did when he deliberately disobeyed God, or sinned. Let us continue the illustration. Whatever copies you might make of the corrupted electronic file would be affected. However, all need not be lost. With a special program, you could detect and purge the corrupting error from your files and computer. Comparably, mankind has received a “virus,” sin, from Adam and Eve, and we need outside help to wipe it out. (Romans 5:12) According to the Bible, God provided for this cleansing through Jesus’ death. It is a loving provision from which we can benefit.—1 Corinthians 15:22.

I hope this helps to explain why he died for us.

Perhaps for fundamental would be why would a god who is all powerful and capable of creating the universe and man, need to allow his only begotten son to die for such a purpose. Further, why such an all powerful loving creator condition a persons eternal life on the fact that such person "believe" in the creator. Why would such a god need such recognition? I always thought gifts should be given without any expectation of something in return, otherwise it is not a gift. Those who believe have to do it on faith as it makes no rational sense.

It is all nonsense. If god is THAT strict and mean, then nobody is going to heaven. Nobody !! There would be always some little thing that somebody did (or didn't do) that would offend him. Eve eating an apple was a big deal and then the story goes that everybody from that point on had to die and then face hell.

People should realize that some things are only stories, myths, fables.

Because the Jewish law required a perfect Blood sacrifice, And Jesus was the Most Perfect Lamb that could be sacrificed for an end to that old Covenant
Praise God for our Lord and Savior Jesus, Now the debt is paid.

God is Love. He did not want to see his creation, man, lost to Him, through the temptation of Satan, by sin. So He sent His own sacrifice, His Son, a living embodiment of Him to live a perfect life and die as a perfect sacrifice that could pay the debt of sin for all of us. Jesus was the only living being perfect enough, so that His sacrifice could cover the sins of all who ask. In order to receive the gift that God has given us all, we must accept Jesus as the Son of God and love Him for the sacrifice He made. In doing so, we ask that Jesus' sacrifice be our atonement, in that way we no longer have to pay for our own sins. Those who do not believe and ask for Jesus' death to cover their sins are not forgiven, but must pay for their own.
God's ways can be very difficult for us to accept and even to understand.
Forgiving the guilty is not just, it is perfect love. All we have to do is ask.

You ask a Good Question my friend!!

God allowed his son to die: so as hundreds of millions of others might live: a strange concept from a God of Love I know… but what greater love could a father or brother/son show??!!

If you do not forgive others their sins/transgressions/faults/guilt/wrongs etc, etc, etc: God will not forgive you: yours!! Is this not fare?

Remember: as you point the finger at others: be them right, or be them wrong: be you right, or be you wrong: there are always 3 more pointing right back at you!!!

Go away: read your Bible: but more importantly>>> If you want to find the answers to your question for yourself: instead of relying on the misguided opinions of many a non-believer on this forum: ask God & His Holy Spirit to help you to understand the ‘TRUE’ meanings of His word: especially on 'Forgiveness': Unconditional Love: & Salvation!!

God bless & help you in your search for the truth, & your answers!!!

I think that is the whole point of religion. You know how Jesus was abused and crucified. Buddah, and the monks are pushed asside from society, and viewed as jokes who live in poverty. Also this provides a reason we who are abused can explain this painful plight to ourselves and continue to live and work.
Also the abusers can go to church, and give tips, and continue going to work and slave driving without all of the thinking painful thoughts about it.
Psychology would simply say that a person's parents, or first human contacts abused, or mistreated them, and from then own that person subconsiensly seeks to be mistreated.
I belive this is true to some extent, but without the religion telling me I'm going to heaven I guess I'd have to kill myself.
