i think the right way to worship God is by fear Him not only love Him. as He told Abraham:

Genesis 22:12
And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God.....

When it says 'fear God' we're suppose to have a reverence for the power, similar to us all having a fear of heights. Not that were 'afraid' of it... just that we are sober-minded.

The New Testament says that perfect love casts out fear... Should the final word about God be fear or Love... uuhhhmmmm?

The entrance gate is the fear of the Lord--not a servile fear, but rather, respect, honor, and reverence.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments His praise endureth for ever" (Psalm 111:10)

The wise man declared wisdom to be the "principal thing" (Proverbs 4:7). But how to obtain this desireable treasure? Our need is imperative, but the cost seems prohibitive.
Wait! The King has sent a generous invitation, beautuful in its simplicity.

" If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men leberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him" (James 1:5).

Ask with faith, and Wisdom is yours! God wills that you be wise in Him.

Fear = Utmost Respect

This concept of god appears quite strange. It seems that your god is so vain and vindictive that if you do not stroke it's ego by worshiping it in a highly proscribed manner, it tortures you for eternity in everlasting fire. Now that sounds like a highly disturbed creature that is hardly worthy of worship or respect. Hitler used fear this way, look how well that worked.

not to be sacrilegious, but the bible in entirety was composed by members of the christian church. Back at the time of Jesus, people laughed at the idea. So over the years the church used intimidation to gather followers. IN my mind, god doesn't like the bible, god is against everything the christian church has ever done, but god loves Jesus, because Jesus was a pure man. He loves anyone with a kind heart, if or if not you go to church.

The biblical meaning of fear is to obey God as opposed to receiving his wrath, which is condemnation in hell. He who fears God loves and respects God. He who does not fear God is an arrogant fool.

The correct translation for the Hebrew word we know as "fear" is "awe".

You are not to be afraid of God, like you're afraid of drowning or tornados or rats or whatever.

You are to stand in awe of His might, His glory, His love and His salvific plan. Like you stand in awe of the pyramids, or the Taj Mahal or Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Only more so!

a quote from the bible " my people perish because of the lack of knowledge" God is NOT talking about a cowardly fear like being in a corner shaking. fear of the lord means knowing that he is all powerful. and all things are in his control. and that is the reason for us to praise and worship him. God does not want us to be scared of him, he wants us to respect him.

The word 'fear' (especially in 1611, when the KJV was translated) can also mean 'respect.' Abraham wasn't "scared to death of God," he respected Him as the Soverign Creator.
