I babysit a 5 yr old... She is always spilling her drink. I give her a cup with a lid... she figures out how to spill it, I gave her a sippy cup thinking she couldnt manage it... Yep, spilled it. On an average she spills about 4 out of 5 drinks I give her. I have started giving her water and not allowing her out of my kitchen... But still spilling... Please help, I will take any suggestions no matter how stupid someone thinks it is.....

I would assign a seat for drinking. She may not get out of that chair until she is done. Then, every time she finishes a drink without spilling, reward her with a sticker or a cookie or an m&m or two. This will CAUSE her to THINK about how not to spill! That's what you really want, for her to decide she will not spill, and to figure out what she can do to make that happen.

Have you ever asked her why she spills it? take the time to explain to her why it is important not to spill her drinks.

Does this child have accidents with other things; walking, running, etc?

sit her in the highchair until she finishes. She won't want to be in it, but she'll get the point.

Or, give her a big girl cup with a little water in it. maybe she's ready for that.

its a game to the child, shes 'playing with you' to see how far she can push you for what ever reason or she is just attention seeking. be patient. hope this helps.
