It depends on the types of exercises, and whether there is resistance, and how much.
Any exercise using heavier weights and fewer reps, or significant resistance for an extended period of time, are muscle-building exercises. It's because the strain they put on the muscles actually breaks them apart, and when the body rebuilds them, it builds in more mass to handle the increased demand you're putting on them.
So using heavier weights with your squats and lunges, or riding a bike uphill or for long distances on a lower gear (or on a stationary bike with high resistance), all put the kind of stress and strain on your gluteus maximus & gluteus minimus (or butt muscles) that is going to make them increase in mass.
Exercises with low resistance, like light weights, or no weights, with lots of reps tone or harden the muscles. This is because the muscles don't experience the kind of stress that actually breaks them down. Instead, their shape and structure is just reinforced by the repitition.
Do doing lunges and squats with very little or no weight, or riding a bike in a higher gear (or a stationary bike with low resistance), or swimming laps, or yoga and pilates, all lead to firmer muscles, and therefore less jiggle and sag.
Now, all this exercise will probably (hopefully, if you're not stuffing your face with junk while you do it) shed a lot of unwanted fat, so all these muscles you're working will be more prominent.

Your butt doesn't really get bigger, it gets firmer and shapelier. It will probably be a little rounder, giving the illusion of being bigger, when in reality, it is just more toned. If you do heavy weights on some leg exercises, like squats, lunges, donkey kick backs, it can make your butt bigger because it makes the muscles in the butt bigger. If you don't use alot of weight, though, it just tightens the glute muscles, not really making them bigger. Personally, I think a round, tight butt looks way better than a flat one.

In my opinion there is 3 types of butts:
1. No a.s.s
2. Lard a.s.s
3. Firm a.s.s.
If you don't have one you can at list work out and try to get a firm one. Muscle builds and expands. That is why most men work out their arms to have bigger biceps to impress the females. I hope that helps.

Certain exercises CAN make your butt look bigger.
For instance, you would figure that riding a bike would tone and shapen your rear but in fact if you ask any cyclists they will you that they have bikers butt. Don't know why but their rumps just look bigger.

The muscle will grow when you work it. If you lose fat while working out you will lose it from all over your body, so even though your but fat gets smaller, the fat on your waist and thighs goes away too making your butt look bigger.
