Rather than trying to figure out the timing from when the guests receive the invitation, work from the dates that you have to give a count to the caterer. Most caterers require a preliminary count about 2 weeks out. They will use that number to place their order for food. You can usually adjust the number a little about 3 days before the wedding. Therefore, plan on asking that the RSVPs be returned about 3 weeks before the wedding. There will be a certain number of people that don't respond that you will need to call and this gives you time.

You should send the invitations out 6-7 weeks before the wedding. I believe that is what is written in emily post. Then you should contact where you are having the wedding. They will need a head count by a certain time. That time should be your dead line.

I would say anywhere from 2-4 weeks. CHeck with your caterer/hall to see when they might need an estimated number. You usually don't have to give an actual number until 1-2 days before the wedding.

Usually people set a date two weeks before the wedding to finalize their seating and catering counts. Sometimes that is written on the response card "Please respond by August 12th, 2006" for instance. Expect to have to call up everyone who does not respond. It is extremely rude not to respond, but try not to make a big deal about it. Designate one of your bridesmaids to do the calling for you.

I would say at least a month... 4 weeks should be fine on average, but pad a couple weeks if you are sending out the invitation during summer, ski season, or the December holidays to allow for mail delays and people being on vacation.

I'd give them about 3 weeks to respond.and if you don't hear from them by then.you call them up and ask if they are coming. and when you call just tell them.that you were wondering if they were coming. So that you could make sure that you have a place for them to sit.At the wedding and at the reception.
