I believe the main reason a non-Christian should read the Christian Bible is so that they are informed about what we are disagreeing with. It would be hard to argue something that we know nothing about. In order to say "I do not belive in that" we must first know what "that" is. In order to not believe in something, you must first understand it.
Christians have been incredibly opposed to the book "The Da Vinci Code". Every Christian I have encountered who has said bad things about this book has never read it. How can they possibly say that it is wrong and sacreligious if they don't even know what its contents are? It is because they believe what they hear. They are told that "The Da Vinci Code" is anti-Christian and that is what they believe. (Go figure.) Rather than being informed so that they can intelligently debate the subject, they prefer to be ignorant and judge something that they know nothing about. They don't seem to understand that the book is classified as fiction and the references to Jesus and other Christian subjects pertain to the plot of the book. If they read the book, they would understand that.
When I was in High School, Homer's Odyssey and Illiad were required reading due to the fact that they are both obviously great literature.
Who's to say the Bible is not just a great epic novel or story just like the Illiad?

I'm a non-christian and have read the bible. As a matter of fact I know more of the content in the bible than all of my friends and acquaitances who ARE christian. Strange huh? I read as much as I can from all aspects of life. To form an opinion about something you MUST know all the facts from all sides. Now, do I believe the bible? That's another story.
I have also read the DaVinci Code - and loved it. For what it was. A great mystery, murder, suspense novel. Nothing more.

Why not read it? I am not a Christian and I read the bible. When I talk to people about Christianity I would like to know what I am talking about. I talk to others about many different kinds of religions. We have many religious books here so that we can read them and then be able to discuss them with knowledge. Reading is for knowledge whether it is fiction or non-fiction. I find nothing wrong with knowing about other religions nor an open mind to my own religious beliefs.

Curiosity maybe? I have read most of the books you mentioned and I do not believe in what they talk about but if anyone asks a question on any of them I can at least give an intelligent answer to them rather that show my ignorance of the subject. Whether you believe it or not, it is good reading to check out what the bible says so if anyone asks, at least you can give an intelligent answer rather than showing your ignorance. I have a Quaran, the Morman extra book that was supposed to be after the bible as well as the Catholic Catechism but it does not mean I believe in all of them. At least I know what I believe and can answer any question that would come up to me about them intelligently.

I am nacho typical Christian, and all I can say is that the book is not high on my reading list. I prefer secular classics and plays. I even prefer math books or any philosophy book that is ok with me critiquing it.

Knowledge is power.
I read Winnie - the- Pooh and I still don't believe bears can talk. But I wonder why he walks around with his bottom exposed. Is that considered porn?
